19 month year 18000 miles UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy. Campsites and off Grid.
Hoping set off towards South Spain in a couple of weeks for a couple of months. We would like to more time in Spain than France but don't want to just motor thru France. A few little pauses on route would be good. Then meander through Spain to eventually settle somewhere for a couple of weeks before returning.

So a few questions:

Will all campsites be open in France late September to mid October? We really need EHU as the fridge is not working on Gas. (Will take some cool packs for the odd day off grid)

Any suggestions of interesting routes going south?

The traditional campsite closing date is 15th September, but any time from 1st September to 30th is possible. Whether the sites will remain open longer to recoup lost business is anyone's guess, although I believe that sites choose the season length and pay the equivalent of Business Rates based on the chosen season length.

We travel down the Atlantic Coast and stop at Camping Beau Soleil, Gradignan [Bordeaux] and then Camping Larrouleta, 64122 Urrugne, nr St Jean de Luz, having started from our hovel in the Vendee. It's about 310 miles [187 then 123 miles]

There are quite a lot of aires where there is EHU and if you need guaranteed EHU then you'll need to use the Camping Carpark Aires. You'll need a card which you need to top up in order to access the aires. We bought ours a couple of years ago before we travelled to France but think you can buy the card at the gate.

The Camping Car Aires are private and seem to be old municipal sites. Easy to find online via the app and the card required is available at the barrier machines. Once you have the card it can be used at any location.
We have used them throughout France on our travels and some even have toilet facilities (although these have been closed due to covid restrictions)
They are also open 24/7 and 365 days a year as barrier controlled. Average price 10-15 euros per night including electric
