I’m a newbie
Hi. Long story but we’ve had to travel to Caen from Portsmouth instead of Bilbao. Consequently not prepared for France. On ferry now and looking for somewhere to stay tonight. Not too close to port due to illegal migrant issues. Have checked out a couple of aires but they say you need a card of some kind which we don’t have because we were expecting to sail to Bilbao. Any suggestions please? 🙏🙏

New camping carpark beside the war museum, you can obtain a card from the entrance machine bit of a rigmarole though. Also a free aire at the end of the car park on the other side of the museum

Sometime ago we had a very pleasant stay at the municipal campsite just up the road from the ferry
it seems now to be commercial but very convenient and you’ll feel safe though I don’t think there are issues with migrants at Ouistreham
it’s riva Bella site I think

same address!
there's an aire outside

Here you go;

Hermanville sur Mer. Just far enough from Ouistreham to ensure a night without
someone trying to attach themselves to your chassis. (if you know what I mean.)

Coords; N49.28592, W0.31243

Out of the port, turn right at first set of lights and follow the straight road out of Ouistreham
It's about three miles.

I would have suggested a car park in Lion sur Mer but as you have discovered,
they've installed a Camping Car Aire and cancelled the former place for overnighting
in the car park.
