Decision was made on Saturday to convert Paul's vw caddy-max into a small camper day van :thumb:We started at 11.30am ish after looking for stuff on the net and finished at 6.30 pm ish -Sunday we started at 10.30 am and finished at 4.30 pm inc me cooking a Sunday dinner(steak y puds etc) Van has now got all furniture in, new flooring laid and is 75 % complete --Just needs a cooker/sink LB & RR bed and some wiring so it will be complete when we get another 2 days spare or in 3/4 nights once I collect the bits we need :thumb:Then it's up for sale along side the transit ::bigsmile: Pics to follow when Paul gets around to sending me them :thumb::Smile:

Up date on this -ordered a smev 9222 cooker / sink from Magnums and a control panel from O'leary's paid a tenner delivery on both so it saves me running over to pick them up :thumb:Just got to order a L/Batt off ebay then everything's in place to complete :thumb:
Julie says she can have the seats done in a day so it looks like it will be done before Friday :thumb:-I'll let Paul have it for a few days before we sell it ::bigsmile:

saw some real weird looking things at Stratford called the "Cutie". done what is said on the tin mind and thought would be a great little thing for running events or just a sleep over.
done by wildaxe and then saw it being towed home on a trailer by another motorhome. :thumb:

Correct I think Wilden import them. Despite the familiar rad grill, it's not a Beeper van.
Probably towed because the performance is a tad dull.

YES they are Chinese, would be towed because it will be new as in no miles :thumb: so it can be used as a show vehicle but sold as new --The vans at shows cost the makers a lot in terms of loosing value, but if they did not show them they cannot sell others from them :Smile:I read a article on the cute about 8 mths ago,and as a van almost 2 yrs ago -think it said it's a copy of the Dihatsu that was a copy of the old Honda

Nice - camper mate, I'm thinking of building one based on either a Caddy Max or likes of a LWB HT Skudo or similar
Did your units come as a kit or did you make these from scratch ?
Will keep an eye on this post for ideas for sure with Scottish Gas using Caddy Maxes there should be no big issue getting a good used one :)
You don't happen to know where a pop top of any type could be sourced for both the Caddy and/or the others mentioned

Hi DCM a firm in Sheffield does them and Wellhouse leisure also does pop tops - So far all we have done is Saturday and Sunday with a 4 hr evening bit and then another hour --Paul will be home tomorrow so we shall be doing it Friday and probably be finished sometime Saturday (if not finished Friday )He has put a tv in it while he was/is away and I have picked up 3 side windows from the VW dealers today (you cannot get Caddy windows except from dealers )so had to pay through the nose.We were not going to put windows or TV in but the decision is made :D first I knew was yesterday when I got a call to order a tv Ariel and go pick up a couple of window fitting kits and then go get the 3 side windows from dealers-we discussed fitting one side window that has now gone to 3 :) We made all the furniture from scratch but I have a good stock of boards so that allowed a flying start Saturday Morning at 11.30 after we looked on the net for ideas on the Caddy --I am afraid you will have to pay the tenner to join fun but that will give you unlimited questions and will be the best tenner you will spend on your van -plus you can keep us posted on your own progress (y)If we worked every day on the Caddy I think we could do one in 5 days easy -one running about for gear and 4 making it :DThe Transit took 5 weeks but again did not work every day -prob 3 weeks once you get the gear -Hard job is selling them -only had one person look at the transit so hoping the caddy sells quickly plus the caddy is/has no where near the goodies in the transit so a lot cheaper to convert

UPDATE--Done almost 7 hrs on the caddy today (y) Ended up having to take out the cooker/sink unit to fit the side window into the door -we looked at taking the door off but decided to leave well alone and remove the unit :)All 3 windows fitted, and sink/cooker unit back into the van plus now water and waste are connected along with all electrics to power water pump and small fridge, Sargent unit, leisure battery and relay to charge LB Just leaves the TV to be wired in -Paul made sure the TV fitted then took it out again while he was away.Well on target for it to be finished tomorrow with Julie going to make some curtains some time next week (y) Probably an hour or so to fit the curtains but that should not stop it being up for sale come Monday (y)

Update -7 hrs today-we would have finished it easy but Paul ended up trying 4 different TVs before we were happy (y)he also added some lights and other leccy gear :) then we decided to add a big drawer under the front section of the bed -I took these pics at around 2pm so none showing it with the doors on etc -they will follow on either Monday night or Tuesday night depending when we get around to fitting 5 door handles and the curtains -That's it complete but for 5 handles(doors and catches on ) and the curtains (y):)Also decided it's going for some graphics mid week so Paul will have to borrow my car for work (y)The large under bed drawer saves having to crawl under the bed to retrieve stuff and should come in very handy to store bedding etc - waiting for the Graphics before advertising it for sale (y)

many many years! since I was a kid
Looking great now Terry and being a niche market for mini campers may be an easier van to sell

i know this may sound odd, but in some ways I prefer the plain looks of this van over the personal touches of the other. both are excellent, but personally I see more opportunities to personalise the plain one making it individual. just maybe others think similar? getting the right compromise between what the builder sees as good looking and making it too personal is often difficult.

have you thought about using the thread and photos to put together a feature for MMM etc? Great publicity to sell the van and would be good for the magazine too

Not really, besides I am doing these on my drive so I don't want to upset the neighbors ;)
The Caddy has been interesting to do and only taken 3 x 7 hrs days and a 4 hrs evening plus 1 hr evening with a hour left to do.It's Paul's everyday transport so we have to do all the work around his regular work --I have got the Transit advertised on Auto trader now with a asking price of 16.5 k /offers/may px,so hopefully all the bases are covered (y)but the first offer at 15k will drive it away :)(that was original target price)
Broken Link Removed

Got to do some home work for the price on the Caddy, they are strange vans to price up as vans let alone as a small camper - not sure on the demand (if any) for one but they are certainly a lot easier and quicker plus cheaper to convert than the transit.:D
Will look at a T5 next see how easy/quick they are to do plus there are loads around and look to sell easy if the price is right.:)Besides Paul,s fancying one for himself as a run around so if we can turn a Caddy into a t5 for him he will be happy :DMe I am on the lookout for a Fiat group type van for myself or anything interesting --Got lot's of goodies stored away for my own van (y)-hell I may even put some Solar on it :D

Update Paul left the caddy with me for some window tints and graphics today but when I got there he had already booked in a full days work doing tints so asked me to come back Monday as he thought I only wanted the Graphics (would fit them between jobs) so I agreed on Monday for it all.(y) anyway I got the handles on (y) so it.s now complete (y)Got to leave curtains etc off because they will be in the way of the tinting ;)

Terry can you please stop making other self builders look bad, everyone knows it takes a year to fit a van out

Looks great mate and should sell easily, as others have said the surfer market will snap this up.

Let me know if you want this build added to your site.
