right, in the interests of pursuing my ability to become increasingly lazy, i have modded our cadac (safari chef 2), ive fitted a quick release coupler to the unit, and drilled 3 small holes in the legs to allow them to fold over the connector, so it all fits neatly in the bag as it should, just thought i'd share, pics to follow..........

( i know, im sad )

Ooh ooh just bought one of them . Waits for pics . Seemed strange to me that coupling deal. Don't know why they didn't just mount a screw connector on side

yeah i know, bit of a pants set up, i reckon its because you can get 2 versions, hp and lp, hp being the one you screw a canister onto, so probably a cost saving exercise, using the same chassis for both, am now working on a way of extending the legs................

If you have an old slatted aluminium table you can use 3 of the slats to slot over the Cadac legs to extend them. Alternatively you can also use some plastic waste pipe.

You could instead put a hole through the slats and then a bolt through the holes you've drilled with a wing nut on ... (y)

Ah but
That would need 2 holes per leg to stop it folding.....
I did think of that but my solution is mint....
Watch this space lol
It may take a while as parts on order from China
My solution is to be quick and removable and lightweight whilst not affecting the original functionality or storage of it

You'll be impressed:)
... judging by how long stuff takes to get to the UK from China I think I'll have lost interest by then!

More than toes wet now!
fail, we have chef2, so wanted longer legs to use when needed!, not another unit!:)
So's that. Just happens to be a Carri Chef 2 not a Safari Chef 2!

Ah, so you want to retain the Safari Chef but you want longer legs! Can I then suggest this option ........

Oh, longer legs on the barbie! Sorry.:p:p:p

I'm awaiting your solution with interest as we've got a Safari Chef 2 to.

as much as that option is far sexier :sneaky:................i'll stick with mine lol
just waiting for bits from china, means adding 3 rails to the outside of the body, to attatch what can best be described as 'tactical' parts :confused:, and legs:). The idea is to keep the safari chef2 in its virtually std state, and be able to add legs when we need em, and be light and quick to assemble.........i hope.
not that its obvious i have a thing about weight of stuff we are constantly finding to go in the van:rolleyes:

Buy two pairs and you've got a spare! Or get a buddy to buy three pairs between you and you're sorted!

ps You can get aluminium leg extension for the Safari Chef 1 but they don't fit the 2.

i can see me and a mate turning up to buy those shoeso_O make the shop assistants day!

the leg extensions you speak of only fit the older model, and theyre made from the slats of old camping tables, i did look at this but couldnt find slats big enough for the legs on the newer model! and the boss was a bit concerned i was about to start hacking up our camping tables

Following this with interest as you're addressing the only two issues I have with the Safari 2 - the inability to use the quick release, and how to extend the legs (y)
What size drill bit did you use? Looks like you found the perfect size. I'll definitely be making this mod.
Can't wait to see what you come up with for the legs :D

Link ebay for quick coupler:

Hole size I have varied per leg
Will sort pics with ruler lol
2 holes are oval so will require some 'hand finishing'

Ok, so.
Leg 1 hole diameter 23mm
Leg 2 Hole diameter 23mm
Leg 3 hole diameter 12mm
All measurements approx
Hope that's OK
Mark leg one hole centre and go from there
All legs are internally marked btw!

Why the different sized holes? Would it really make much difference if they were all 23mm???

I'm wondering if using the legs of an old camera tripod would do the trick, easy to extend/put down and I'm sure there would be an easy way to attach them.

I was trying to think of something that would be lightweight, pack small and be stable enough for the Cadac ... then the idea of tripod legs popped into my mind. :)

Great minds think alike! :D
