I’m a one year old
Funsters,
I have a Cadac grille chef bbq, which is brilliant btw. Heading to Italy in the summer and will obviously be using it regularly. My question is, does anyone have any tips for keeping it secure when it’s left outside. I can of course disassemble it each day/night and locker it away, but it would be a chore over 30 nights in one place. Much better if I could leave it out day and night without risk of someone nicking it. Suggestions?

Maybe we're too trusting, but if we're on a campsite we just leave our Safari Chef outside with the table and chairs. We usually put it just under the edge of the MH so that if it rains it doesn't fill with water.

I put everything away every night or even if we go out during the day but we have a big garage so it's no bother.

I leave ours out we have had good use out of it I don't worry to much abut it I used to have a motion alarm of a motorcycle on it at night some twat niked the alarm when I left it out hanging on the wind brake
but never had a problem with the BBQ.

We often leave ours out, sometimes for a couple of weeks if we are staying long term somewhere.
Not sure I would risk it in Italy though.

Richard.

+1 but its a webber Q

Everything gets put away when we go out and at night.
Although at present we are on a CL where owner is in evidence most of the time & site is protected by electronic gate & cameras. We still put stuff away at night tho.

I wouldn't leave it out overnight but if you don't want to put it away, just lock the base part to something and take the griddle top off and put that inside.

Excellent idea, remove part of it to make it not worth stealing.

I do similar with the outboard motor on my boat, I remove the cowling and replace it with a waterproof fabric cover which means that any thief would then have to source a new cowling and would probably consider moving on to an easier steal.

I have a cover to keep the worst of the rain off mine and once it’s built, it stays out overnight.

It’s been left out in France, Italy and UK, but it’s a good few years old now and looking a bit battered, so a nice shiny new one would be a better target.

The worst thing that happened to our Cadac when we left it out overnight was being knocked over by two wild boar, which then rummaged under the cover to get at the cooking remnants. When the noise woke me I watched them - without going outside, I hasten to add!

Wild Boar make good eating.

You may need a bigger Cadac though! :)

Leave ours out at night if on a campsite in europe you only have to look around to see all the Dutch and Germans leaving everything out and nothing gets taken, maybe they’re more trusting

I always leave my crocs put and they never get pinched!

The wonderful unwritten rule of thou shalt not touch other people’s stuff on campsites!

Thanks everyone. Since first posting, I’ve seen someone on Skye with a small storage tent. Now bought one and using it to hide away the bbq (once cold) plus chairs, table etc. Even used to keep bikes dry. Out of sight, out of mind!

We had our chairs stolen on an Italian campsite last year. We had previously always left everything out but now lock the chairs away. We think because they allow people to leave up to 11pm an opportunist leaver decided they were having our chairs!!
