Hi rang dvla today re c1 renewal now age74 need to take medical every year is this right

Depends, I only got two years.

Is it health dependant eg 1-2-3 year review?

If you have no major problems, that in your heart of hearts know could be a problem. getting your C1 renewed is both quick and straightforward. I am 82 and into my 4th renewal.

I let mine lapse at 70 as our MH was under 3.5T (alledgedly) but reinstated it at 75 without any problems and medical OK.
This year I will have to renew it at 79, but forsee no problems.

Crikey you were lucky to get the phone answered ! I had to have medical passed & got another 3 years .

Don’t forget to send a photo with you PPL5 action not alway clear if you need one, from the info when I applied in 2021 as I understood it they could take it from my passport, got the forms back 12 weeks later saying they had no access to my passport. Sent the forms off again but it still took another 13 weeks. No so bad now. Wife has just had her first C1 medical exam today complete farce.

How did you manage to get through to a live person at DVLA please? I tried a couple of weeks ago and they weren't accepting calls. I submitted my application forms 15 November 2022 complete with duly completed D2 and D4 forms and have heard nothing.
I was writing a letter today enclosing a copy of my application and then spotted this thread. I will try and ring them first thing in the morning! Wish me luck!

So I'm 70 in July and can apply to renew C1 90 days in advance. With the eye test, how recent does this have to be? Just had double cataract surgery and no longer need glasses. eye test with optometrist this coming Friday but I can read number plates at 40M easy peasy

I had stents fitted 18 months previous to renewal application. No problems subsequently, but I assume that’s why I just got 2 years on the eventual renewal.

Medical, including eye test, can be done up to 4 months before renewal, but as you say application can only be done 90 days before renewal date.

I actually rang DVLA this morning and after a moderately short wait of only 10 mins spoke to someone (Alan) who after checking all my details said yes they received my application on 15th November 2022 and replied to me on the 22nd Nov! At first a letter was sent to me and my Doctor but then he thought that they may have sent both letters to me! They will now resend them! Oh joy, cant imagine what the query is but await with interest their correspondence.

Thanks, thats what I did this morning at 8.30am. See my post above. Not a very satisfactory outcome.

I have checked with my doctors this afternoon, they didnt receive any letter from DVLA either. Strange that!

Contacted D4 Drivers on 25/1/23. Appointment on 28/1/23
C1 arrived in post today. No problems . My own doctor said it would take three weeks for an appointment and the cost £150 plus extra for an opticians test. Robbing ****. D4 was £55 including optical test so many thanks to them. I am ok now until 2026.
