I’ve read that the government may be making the c1 process quicker and easier - is this correct ? Thanks

Let's hope so at the speed they are going some of us won't get our c1 back

The current process is:

1. Apply for your C1/C provisional licence.
2. Wait for 12 months, hearing nothing, seeing nothing update on the Licence Tracker.
3. Apply shotgun to skull.
4. Pull trigger.

However, apart from this, I haven't heard anything about C1. I've heard they're consulting on alternative paths to B+E and skipping C on the way to C+E, but not heard a peep about C1.

C1 a bit confused. Sent all the forms off, this is the second C1 got the first one a 70 fine. As my passport is only 7 years old did not send a photo as last time they took the passport one by giving them the number. Just got the forms back today with a letter saying could not process as no photo. As the one they have on file is only 7 years old am confused. I am sure from reading online that I did not have to send a photo this time.

It's pot luck with DVLA to which idiot opens your letter. The big problem is they won't query it with you they just reject the whole application same happens with registrations.
I had similar when registering a van, they rejected the registration saying the VAT wasn't paid, it was but DVLA & HMRC computers take a week to sink up, blithering idiots.

Just tried the online renewal if not keeping the C1 right up to where it tells you if you want C1 you cant do it online but it would have renewed it otherwise with no photo requirement.

It would need a D4 medical if you are 70+

I think he was pointing out that the idiot got the requiring a photo bit wrong & incorrectly rejected the application.
I agree, I was trying to point out C1 can’t be done online anyway as D4 needed but I could be wrong

I sent the D2 & D4 as required. When I renewed it in 2018 no photo was needed as passport photo only then 4 years old. So this time as passport photo is only 7 years old no photo is needed. (As I understand it??)

Received this e mail today after I sent a query re needing a new photo, three years ago on renewingI didn’t send a new photo and it was renewed.

Thank you for contacting DVLA to seek clarification.

It may help if I explain that a photograph on your licence is valid for 10 years, although you may have provided a passport number we are not able to access the digital photograph. As stated on the returned documents we will need a physical photograph in order to renew your licence.
As for the red markings on the application this is for our administration and nothing to be concerned about.

When you return your application form it will be delivered to the department handling your application, although I must make you aware that all mail is being processed within 6-10 weeks.

So back to square 1. I think the form needs to make it easier to see if you need a photo or not? Or is it me not understanding it??

When we renewed Brens C1 a short while ago I read the forms and advice notes several times. TBH it could be taken both ways i.e. you need/don't need a photo. So despite apparently not needing a photo we sent one anyway - but of course this then puts you into the "renew photo" category - £17 please!

But we did at least get an email confirming all had been received and the licence would be returned in due course. I wouldn't be surprised to get a cheque for £17 either!

Having looked into it further, the date at 4b on your licence is when your photo expires. I alway though they could use your passport photo, as I am sure I have done that in the past. Going online to renew without the C1 right up to where you would click the confirm button it makes no mention of the photo?

When I recently renewed my C1 licence I really couldn’t make our if I need a new photo and if so did I need to send a cheque for £17.
I sent both with a short covering note as belt and braces so that there would be no delays.
Even with all that it still took them over 15 weeks to renew and that was after a lot of chasing.
DVLA is a basket case and not fit for purpose. :banghead:
