Getting better
Well they are proud of themselves aren't they. I wonder what their clients i.e. The uk driver and taxpayer would say.
Anyone offering their score out of 10 for recent DVLA transactions?

So, it's been running for 12 months......
then why have some been waiting nearly as long for a DVLA decision ???
Obviously not working and just a 'back patting' exercise on DVLAs part.

I read as far as "to help shape the user journey" and had a sudden attack of "recollections of working with the Civil Service". So to preserve my sanity I didn't read any further but in a little over 4 years I'll be using their service for real - if I'm spared that long. Hopefully, they will have finished it when I need it and if it is I won't mind if the bloke pictured hasn't learnt how to wear a suit or shave by then. :)

As far as I can see you still have to apply by post to renew a C1 licence at age over 70, so you can't apply online.

Ah, but the Guru claims they have “Transformed our processes within the paper application route . . . “ Stop giggling at the back :)

Does having a medical before 70 make it a straight forward change that just continues, or do they jump on you just the same because you have hit the magic age??????

I'm a newbie and always will be. You never know it all.
Just wait, in another 12month they'll be patting themselves on the back for introducing the online application in Braille:whistle:

If you are approaching 70 you can have the medical and apply up to 90 days in advance of your birthday.

The new licence will be valid for 3 years from the date your application is approved and the new licence issued.

What I meant was already having a vehicle medical for another licence before reaching 70 does it also drop dead at 70 or just continue until it expires.

With all due respect, What Treetops is saying is that at 70 ALL entitlements become renewable, some (like C1 etc: subject to periodic Medical. my LGV (C1&2) was subject to annual medical from age 60, even though I was still working. @ a cost of £90 p/a.

I think what Pi$$$$d me off most was the cost of said Medical, which should have been FREE. (another stealth tax on the elderly).

I will be 70 in Feb. Do I just wait until they send the renewal forms before doing anything? I believe they come 3 months before renewal date.

I applied for my new licence at 70 and to retain my C1 .I had to have an eye test ,which i passed and a medical which i paid £120 to our local practice ,which was itself was appalling,The Doctor just downloaded my file stuck it in an envelope ,and told me to post it ,and said i should be ok.The result of that was as i had a Stent put in an artery when i was 65 and never had a problem since .The DVLA sent me for a treadmill test which i failed .The test is 9 minutes 3 separate 3min settings on the treadmill and i failed because i only managed 7mins40 sec.I was informed at the hospital that i just a bit unfit but my vitals were fine .In due course i received a letter from the DVLA telling me my licence had being revoked .I appealed and they sent me for a Myocardial perfusion scan which i passed with ease .i then received a letter from the DVLA telling me my licence will be returned in full to be renewed in 3 years .this all took about 5 months and i was allowed to drive as normal during this time .Was it worth the stress ,Yes it was .I was also informed by the specialist i should fine when the renewal comes around. To be fair i thought the DVLA were pretty good .My advice to anyone is don't give up because while the process is ongoing you are still driving.lol
