Motorhoming since 2015......
Just tried to book 4 nights away with SWMBO at the club site in Moreton-in-Marsh in July.....and the cost works out at £34 per night! I know that prices have risen, but.......!!!

 (n)

I have just checked my booking for Berwick on Tweed 4 nights from 4th July 2 adults £119.20 it's only mid season

I am thinking of not renewing CMH next year - especially if Baltic Wharf closes for good.

There are a few gems like Cirencester Park that I will miss but at almost double the nightly price of comparable CCC sites, it isn't worth it.

The club sites always seem to be pricey if popular and in the high season like all i suppose. If people pay that amount and the sites are busy they can charge it..

Why not buy some of the vouchers on offer with the CMC . Order £100 worth and you get £120. That way you'll save 20% on your booking. Voucher offer open until end of June

Moreton-in-Marsh CMC site says non-members welcome. The village only 10 minutes walk away is a tourist trap. You would expect very high demand when this site re-opens.

In 2018 we stayed 3 nights. That cost us £22.50 per pitch night including EHU, in April. Reasonable value.

Was looking through yesterday.
Couldn't find one site for less than 30 quid a night.
Possibly not renew after this year.

We looked at Castleton for 3 nights in July - £106 .

We don't really like big sites but we are going a bit stir crazy and wanted to just get back in the van for a few days - but we are not that desperate!!!! We will just have to wait until Wales and Scotland let us in and then later this year will head for France!

I’ve booked a couple of weekends, don’t mind paying the slightly higher price assuming CAMC will be following guidelines and sticking to them. I will be basing my future bookings on how well they do on our first booking.

I looked at some Haven parks because they have always been cheap out of peak season but it turns out they are charging silly prices (£60 - £70 per night) even though everything apart from site shop and some of the take aways is closed.

We resigned from The CMC early this year before lock down, joined The CCC as digital members a week before lock down. I then used my 14 day cooling off period to cancel our application, as I wasn't sure when our joining date would run from. They then informed us that they would amend the joining date to when the campsites would be allowed to re-open. They may well open on July 4th, but bearing in mind the way they treated some full timers, chucking them out etc, plus we may not wish to take a risk of staying on a campsite that early in the current covid battle.
As we speak, The R value is still too high, and too many people are still getting infected and dying each day, this is a commercial decision being made, not a safe one IMHO.
I think in some respects its too soon, others can make their own decisions, I am sure they will be packed out.
No doubt the indie site prices will follow, so apart from Fun Rallies, maybe some Warners Shows, and some wilding where possible, thats our UK holidays over.
Europe here we come! when allowed and safe of course.

The club sites for both main clubs are expensive in my personal view. (some may disagree but that’s my view)

What will be interesting on/after 4th July which is when they all open, is a) will all of their facilities be open and available and b)if not (ie, some are already announcing that public areas such as toilet blocks, bars and restaurants will either be closed or restaurants acting as take outs) will they offer a reduction in price due to a reduction of facility?
I doubt it.
At the end of the day, they’re a business and they will cash in on the fact that very few of us will be venturing abroad this year so they know that demand will be there.
Short sighted?
As far as member retention goes, yes.

I’ve been looking for a nice site in August on either the South coast or Devon/Cornwall.
Majority of near coastal clubs sites can’t accommodate my Motorhome size so I’ve been looking at independent sites to equivalent standard and facility.
Their pricing is the same. £45 upwards for a night and that’s if you can secure availability.
But they too are not discounting that price due to a close down of facilities.
So you’re getting big sites with swimming pools, toilet blocks, bars, restaurants and shops and all have limitations. But you’re paying for those facilities.
My suggestion would be to try look for a CL or CS type site without those facilities but nearby to where the club site in question is.

As for chucking out of the C&MC - I’ve pondered this for a while.
I’m with both clubs and both are similar.
However, I have Green Flag through the C&MC and this covers all vehicles in my household at a very good price (including my MH which is nearly 9m long and 5.2t).
Plus they offer great savings on ferry crossings and some good deals on overseas sites.
It’s only for these reasons why I end up renewing.
The change of name has been a gimmick in my view.
They may as well stayed as the caravan club as it’s run by caravanners for caravanners.
Had they been serious about motorhomers they would have started catering for Motorhomes in an aire type facility at the entrance to each club site. - some of which have been closed for revamps and some of which are/have been built since the name change.
At a minimum, they should have introduced something like a Motorhome members club card whereby you pay a fee and this allows you to call in at any site and fill up with water and empty waste without local charge.
That facility should be by the entrance.
Have they done this? No
Have they done anything else that I’m not aware of for motorhomers since changing their brand name?
You tell me.

How much are commercial sites in popular areas in July and August?
It amazes me how many people do not seem to understand the principles of supply and demand!

What have the Romans done for us? Well since the change of name I have noticed that a lot of the C&MC sites have added/upgraded grey waste dump facilities to full width drive over, not just the small manhole cover they used to have. As regards to having an aire type of option or even just a fill/empty station at the gate, how long before human nature kicks in and it becomes "I'm a member so while I'm here I'm may as well use the toilets and showers"? There's also the problem that with restricted entrances access could become a problem at peak periods.

Equally 'silly' money matamoros, same as hotel & B&B prices go up for the school holidays, always have. When me and sis were kids, we always had the last week of summer school terms off cos that was when we went on holiday, parents couldn't afford the increased prices thereafter. Can't say we noticed really, we always had a holiday so that was all that interested us!

Plus of course if they happen to have a septic tank system, it's wherever they got permission to site it - not usually near the gate!

Did we not expect this from the robbing club???
They need the money to fill all the members pitches with cabins so no room for us tourers.

Don't some people realise bank holiday's and summer season pitch prices are going to go up, as does overseas flights and holidays. Try and find spanish sites at the same price you pay in winter.
Can not see why motorhomers think they should be treated any different from caravaners

Never had a holiday when I was young I was the eldest of 3 boys and Dad was partially disabled after polio. First holiday when I was 25 was for 7 days on Norfolk Broads with my wife and stepson and that made our decision to move to Norfolk from Brighton

My wife has back problems and cannot walk any distance. She has a small mobility scooter and uses that to get about when we are away. It’s not a road scooter and so we need to be near the attraction either by parking the van in the town or at a site that is nearby and scooter-able. Moreton-in-Marsh site is excellent for us, we just have to pay whatever they ask. We have CMC bookings for Southport and later for Ferry Meadows, so we have spent £200 on vouchers and now have £240 to spend so it’s not all bad.
Hoping the CCC can get it’s THSites up and running as they are much cheaper at around £10 per night and invariably they are nearer than regular campsites as they are often in school grounds within the resort etc.

I dont understand all this hate towards the main clubs and pricing. They are all business and a business needs to make money. If you don’t like it then don’t go. No one is making you. Try booking another site at this time of year and the prices are similar, maybe you might save the price of a pint over a weekend stay, is that really a good reason to not go to a site you wanted to go to because of location etc. When you bought your motorhome did you not think, that’s a lot of money but you still bought it because you wanted it. Enjoy yourself while you can you can’t take all that money with you. (y)

Land is expensive in the UK, especially in good locations.
Getting planning is a nightmare.
As with all things, shop around... I've got Graffham Water in July for £17.50/nt... great VFM in my opinion.

How's this - Cornwall end of August 7nts £100.10... £14.30 per night, for a couple...
