The Oxford site has everything!
It’s an easy walk into the city along the Thames or there are buses every 10 minutes from just outside the site.
It‘s a bit noisy, as any city centre site would be but well worth a visit plus it is open all year.
All this for about £10 a night for us old singletons 🤪

Oxford, Cambridge, both with easy access to bus' into town.

St Neots, lovely site on the river banks, easy walk into town... Norwich fairly easy walk to bus stop into town, though we found it boring (OK if you like shopping).

Preferably not busses

I always look up a C&CC site on google maps before choosing to book. The naming of them implying they are "close" to some location can be decidedly dubious. I think Oban is about the worst.

A few suggestions:

Chertsey, Surrey, is close to a couple of riverside pubs, and on the edge of the town about a mile from it's centre.

Bellingham, Northumberland is outside the town (more a village) but about 20 minutes or so walk to the centre with a couple of pubs, cafe and local shops.

Scarborough. massive campsite with big pub next door has large outdoor area too. Just outside the town area, and as Scarbrough is large it's quite a way to walk to the main town centre, probably an hour or more, but bus route outside campsite.

Devizes. Pub a couple of hundred yards outside the site, and another a mile or so along the canal towpath. A little way from Devizes itself but is a trek along the towpath.

Bowness on Windermere. Need to book months ahead. About 5 minutes from the nearest pubs / restaurants alongside the lake and 10 minutes from the main Bowness centre.

Went to Moffat last month, will have to go back when the town is open a bit more and the hills not shrouded in cloud...

Some good shouts, keep them coming... 👍

One of the best things about the C&CC is the THS they run. Often in towns so closer than sites and generally at a reasonable price.

I think the Hereford site might win the prize for being no where near the actual town 😂

Nice dog walk though!
The Rowing Club is an ideal location for me [and Kerry]

I'm looking at one at Wells after the Swaffham Shindig (y)

Canterbury site is about a 25 min walk into the city centre, however it's uphill on the way back.

Yes.. there's also a bus top just outside the site..

I also love Scarborough, nice cliff walk to north beach, mind the steps at the end though, or walk passed the golf course and over the miniature railway track. End up at the same place, yes it is a bit of a walk to the main town but it is lovely on a sunny day. Can't say anything on the timing as I tend to wander and stop and enjoy the views. Peaseholme park is good and dog friendly. Take the younger grandchildren every year, and go on my own sometimes too.

A question about THS's
How far in advance do you ring to book, days, weeks?
And how do you pay...?

Booking not usually required... if it us it will say in "Out and About".. if a busy site.. you get to know which ones you can book usually a few days sufficient.. however I never have..
Payment... Cash.

The C&CC site at Kingsbury Water Park might suit you as there is good dog walking along the nearby canal where there is a dog-friendly pub (The Dog & Doublet) as well as good walking around the Water Park itself. The village of Kingsbury with grocery shop, chippie etc is just the other side of the water park so it's only a short, level walk away.

Was hoping to find somewhere on this thread as john still can't walk far after his hip op, will have to resort to searching myself 😉

Further to BillandHelen CAMC thread:

I like sites that are within easy walking of a village/town/city with at least a couple of dog friendly pubs [20-30mins]. Places like Castleton, Moreton etc

I've just rejoined C&CC and my impressions are that their sites are a little more remote - unless you know better and can recommend some locations?
Canterbury is less the 50yds to bus stop and then 5 minutes into town…
