So we set off a day early for our holiday at 'not Windermere' lol we find a working farm site at sedbergh near Kendall it has a few portaloos and a shower in a shed! It was great the farmer had all the children and adults feeding his pigs and sheep and a talk about how farms work etc. So after one night we move on to the C&CC site at 'not Windermere' we arrive at 12:57 lunch time we stop at the barrier as instructed we don't leave the van. A member of 'our club' approaches and notably looks at her watch. We are given a welcome pack and the usual talk then a another lady on a bike shows us the available pitches! I must add at this point it's obvious there are dozens and dozens of pitches empty! After a few options were eliminated due to my 10m ehu cable not reaching the box we are put in a cramped shaded area next to a road bollard! I ask the woman with so many pitches available and knowing that you aren't allowed to pre book a pitch why am I only shown a few options. She replied the other pitches may have a special size blah blah blah. A couple behind us get shown to a pitch a few up from us and aren't happy either. 30 mins later they 'choose' they own pitch and move.
I can't explain why this club aggravates and disappoints me so much. I think it starts at the false welcome and nod of the watch on arrival then continues as they take you to the water and watch you fill up then escort you to where they want you to have your holiday.
I will have read about the psychology involved in this companies service as it really bugs me.

What I don’t understand is their pricing structure where the price shown is for one adult, I asked them how many solo members they had compared to couples, still waiting for an answer.

Well at least one adult is included in the price!

We stayed on a few sites where the van is one price and each adult is another price.
I asked if it was OK for just the van to stay, and we will visit.
They could not see the funny side.

I stayed at Blackmore C&CC a few weeks ago.

They went out of their way to get two pitches together for when my son arrived to join me although they said it wasn't strictly allowed.

After they showed me to the pitch, I said that I needed water. No problem - the MH service point was a short way away. They even said that as it was so close, I could ignore the one-way system to get back to my pitch.

Never had a problem with wardens but this service would encourage me to go back there.

To be fair, I'm an occasional single person in my van on C&MHC sites

Rather like some of those airports used by Ryanair.
Edit: Mr Porky beat me to it!

I think the reception you get at a campsite is purely down to those particular Wardens.
We have helped on campsites in the past, first one they were so particular where a camper camped, I was left to show one chap (cyclist) where to pitch and when the warden saw where he was she was so cross she booted him (not literally) off the site. Not my fault as I had done as instructed but he had moved by a few feet!

I know a lot of solo campers. There are at least 3 touring clubs specifically for those that camp alone. New Companions (600+ members), Phoenix and New Horizons. Why should solo campers be expected to pay the same as couples? Every unit has at least 1 adult so that makes a sensible starting point, it is easy enough to add on for extra people. Can’t see the problem, just be grateful you don’t have to camp on your own.

I would add that the C&CC have a positive attitude to the New Companions and probably the other solo clubs too.

It’s definitely down to the individual wardens, I have met some that were cheerful and helpful through to some you really cant see why they are in a public facing job! Luck of the draw - I just make a note of the ones not to visit again

I agree, Janine , the Blackmore Vale site staff were fantastic when we were there a while back. (y)

yes you obviously got great service and i dont like to generalise all wardens are bad .But why is it against the rules to get two pitches together? Lots of people travel together or arrange to meet friends on one site we wasnt allowed to have hab doors facing even though we had our grandson with us

It certainly does seem to be very hit or miss.

We were told to park which ever way we wanted to so we had hab doors facing.

The warden did say that he wasn't allowed to tell my son that I was already there because of data protection which I can understand - I might have been avoiding him 😉

Always remember it's 'our club'...I don't want to think about it ...but it appears the couple who ' choose' they own spot aren't ev:(:mad:en members. I've been mugged!

We stayed at "not Winderemere" 4 or 5 years ago and about 40 minutes before the "deadline" to vacate the site (a few vans had already departed, so there were a few empty pitches), 3 wardens wandered over, stood on the pitch diagonally opposite ours, folded their arms and just stared at us ! I was all for putting the kettle on, but the missus said let's go and not come back ?

Thankfully the bar onsite was opened about a month ago, I got talking to the barmen who was full of information.....apparently the bar was shut first covid and never reopened, he works for a local brewery that offered to reopen it the under they running. This is his words not mine! 'The bar was disgusting nicotine up the walls and ceiling, deco from 80s..I didn't work out who had paid for refurbishment but it's a cracking bar now full of local beers and the barman from brewery is a canny lad. I can only imagine mine and everyones subscription fee contributed to that refurbishment....yet I get mugged off over a site allocation. It was my choice to join the CCC...I wanted to be part of a team/group/fellowship etc etc....I'm sure all members are a cash cow by a big corporation with many people making massive salaries for doing nothing and directors for doing even less. I wanted to have value for money and a sense of belonging....I paid my subscription and yearned I wouldn't be let down. I've paid £43.95 per night to be caged in a wooded area away from nowhere.
I still wince when I arrive at a CCC site and see the small print that says 'non members welcome' meaning not as stupid as me.
Heed my warnings

Oban CCC site is ONLY 13 miles from Oban..🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What else would you call it.
They don't make any secrete of where it is
If I wanted to be in Oban a lot there are other options
I do like Oban which has managed to reinvent itself over recent years.
Actually I like eating fish and it is the plaice for that. (y)

That's something that bugs me too. You can't ask for two together, you can't "reserve" a space next to you until the others arrive - you just have to hope that no-one else comes and sets up in that spot. We do meet up with family from across the country for a few days together, this seems needlessly petty. Smaller commercial sites and CLs don't seem to have a problem doing this.

Have been taking John's grandkids to C&CC Scarborough since we got a motorhome so this will be our 13th year, only once did we have a 'jobsworth. But john has much better diplomacy skills than me and all got sorted. Have been also to join friends, had been allocated a pitch in a different area, no problem was given one close to friends. Let's hope it is as good this year.

I’ve never had a problem with the wardens on CCC sites, but don’t get me started on the online booking!

I suppose in one sense it isn't the 'club' it's more my expectations of joining a club that are more higher that is the problem. It's more the pretence of you joining a club that isn't a club! it's a massive national corporate company. I was naive. Now we are pitched I haven't seen a warden all day nobody has asked if everything is ok etc. But hey I have my monthly magazine where an advert quotes you £850 to have a 160 watt flexible solar panel fitted (£900) for on members!

We left the CCC when they didn’t even attempt to open facilities after lockdown. The CMC did all they could to make our stays as normal as possible.
We left the CCC because it insists that on almost all pitches we oay for electricity that we don't use and at the same rate as those people who have much bigger vans and many motre electrical appliances, including some with air conditioning. In my opinion ( not that it's worth much to the CCC) this is socially, economically, and morally unjust!

As already said it's the individual warden that you have to deal with, a couple of weeks ago we were on a C&MC site they were cleaning the toilets just as people started to leave, they had closed both Male and Female Loo's I asked if they were going to open the Disabled Loo so at least people had somewhere to use Oh No was the reply, Oh the last wardens here did, I just wondered what was the change in policy, Well if we opened up them up where could the disabled person go if someone was using it, was the reply.
Oh I get you I answered, oh by the way, Where does the disabled person go if another disabled person is using the toilet.
I suppose if you pay peanuts you 're going to attract some monkeys.

It’s absolutely nothing to do with solo campers, it’s about highlighting a low price which in the majority of cases will be wrong. It would be just as easy to show a reduction for a single person.

It may appear I'm just wanting to knock the CCC, I can assure you I don't want to. I just hope one day this facade comes to an end and this mindless pretence stops. When I was told were my pitch was I was watched as I reversed on, 'then' asked if I had an awning? 'no' I have just a wind out for shade! 'Well you must park closer to the white peg' why? So if/when you're awning is out out all of your things are on the gravel not the grass'!
But you can park a 2 tonne pick up on the grass:banghead::banghead::banghead::punch: it's utter madness of pure bullsh#£.
