i tried cb a few years ago and was dissapointed by the amount of swearing that i heard , so i went and did my Ham Radio license , its not difficult the entry level (foundation) is designed for children to pass. I used to enjoy opening up the repeaters on 2m and a lot of them have a regular "rag chew" , when the conditions were right i could hit the repeaters in europe.
I intend to do the intermediate this year and then the full later on , im hoping to have a mobile antenna set up that can cover all of the bands and yak away to the world.
I also have the RYA cert for marine radio

11 mtrs legal on FM only, Licensed Hams can use all modes on 10 mtrs.i have the old cb in for when i am driving and now 11 meters/cb band is now all legal (am/ssb) or sidbanders if you like, it passes the time away quite nicely.

I also used to drive about and talk with friends, do fox hunts etc on the old 40 channel fm CB radio. I was wondering if the 40 uk fm channels are still the same as they were "back in the day" as I may well have a couple of old sets in my parents garage / loft if they have survived the last house-moving purge.

That answers a question that I have been wondering about. When I go to Europe this summer I shall make sure I only use the European channel range then. The 'new' CEPT frequencies are indeed the same as the old A.M. ones, but of course now using FM ( 26.695 to 27.405 ) and still stick to the very weird spacing around chnl 23 to 25
The first legal frequencies in the UK ( rigs badged 27/81 with a linear channel range of 27.60125 to 27.99125 ) should not be used out side the UK as they are illegal everywhere else !
