Hi, Whilst obtaining quotes here in UK for new tyres for our Boxer, we were advised by one company to hang on to one of our tyres (as long as its not too worn of course) and take it with us in case we needed a replacement. The reason being that we would find that, being tourists in a vulnerable position, we could be vastly overcharged for a new one. Has anyone had such an experience? We'd rather not carry an extra tyre on the roof on the basis of an urban myth!

Tyres do tend to be more expensive on the continent than the UK. I had one fitted in Spain a few weeks ago, but it was E135 compared with one I had fitted in the UK some months ago at £80. Not much in it I agree, but a 13" trailer tyre that I could have picked up in the UK for around £40 cost me E80 in France last week.
