We recently bought an Auto Sleepers Warwick XL and on the day of collection the dealer turned around and said 'we've just realised the previous owner was disabled and therefore it affects the tax on the vehicle but we can get that changed'. We proceeded with the purchase and on receipt of the log book sent it off to the dealer to address the problem with DVLA as requested. DVLA have now sent a replacement log book and a separate letter saying there is nothing they can do other than register it as a diesel car. With its emissions at 226g/km this equates to annual road fund of £555. Is this changeable in anyway despite what DVLA says. Would we have the opportunity to reject the van as its more than double what we were expecting to pay. We also tried registering it with the Dartford Tunnel but due to its tax status we are unable to because I believe of the disabled driver status. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

to change the tax class to disabled, you fill in a form and v5 at the post office and they send it off, or do it by sending to dvla. the same process to return to normal tax rather than free

dvla have messed it up

Could it not be up-rated to a PHGV?

You might well appreciate the extra rear axle loading :)

Disabled tax is cheaper. When I bought my minibus to convert, it was registered as disabled on the V5. When I went to change ownership and tax it they changed it for me at the post office.

Thebig 1 you must have been writing the same time as myself :)

I would have thought it depends on whether there is a CO2 value in the logbook, if there is then you could either pay it, reject it or uprate it if you have C1 on your license, assuming that uprating is possible.

Was it registered as a disabled, CAR, if so it will need changing to a motorhome which is a different thing.

Disabled vehicles also have a VAT implcation in that they have no liability.. When it was registered it woulod have had a CO2 figure as a car would but was free of tax. so didnt matter. Now you have the road tax and possibly a VAT one as well depending on the age. I would run off from that one as the tax is on going and I couldn't afford 550 this year and a load more next year on to as itincreases 5 years libility from new then drops.

If it registered as a car you only need to apply to dvla to change it to motorhome , don't think you would have any problems with that just send photos of it and fill a couple of forms in and I think it's £55

Actually it is against the law to have a camper registered as a car

Not an more... since June it has to " look" like a motorhome. Plus DVLA don't know or won't say what the requirements are!
