Do they smell different once burnt ?

We have always used propane but recently switched to butane as it's easier to source (and cheaper) and we can now smell burnt gas much much more, is this a common difference or could it be that as we switched suppliers that one is using a different odour chemical ie the stuff they put in it so we can smell an other wise odourless gas ?

The new butane smell reminds me of our old family caravan in the 70's

I bought a secondhand buta gas butane bottle to use in France,I then read in my Rapido manual don't use butane.I then rang a well known workshop about the Rapido statement and they said, using butane would be no problem. But when we used it we got a lot of fumes. I took the bottle to SuperU and changed it for propane,no fumes after that.

That's very interesting Ebby, thanks for the reply on that and it does seem to be in-line with our experience (also from Super U butane, Antargaz)
