Had a Burstner with a High Level Rear Brake Light failure.
Sourced a replacement from flea bay. Bench tested before fitting with a 12V battery.
Unscrewed and dug out old unit that was embedded in guey flexible sealant.
Water had got in to the light shorting it out.
Cut and re-soldered the 2 wires to join the new light.
Pressed and held in the brake pedal with an Acme 'wooden stick'.
High level brake level didn't work.
Put side lights on.
Repeated.
High Level brake lights didn't work.
Started engine.
All rear brake lights came on.
High level rear brake light is wired up and only powered when the engine is running.

Thanks for the heads-up. Must check mine before the MOT.

I had a leak inside the van from the high level brake light. The Dealer filled the void behind the light unit with gooey stuff.....it still leaked. I put an external bead of silicone around the outside of the light unit - no more leaks. In your case, the gooey stuff probably stopped any trapped water from draining away.
