Looked through google and search but cannot find a definitive answer.

Roughly what should total cost be to replace a cambelt on a Burstner delfin t680.

And, is it better to replace it with a chain one?

Why, yes or no?

Thank you.

The engine is either designed to use a belt or a chain. You can't swap.

Cambelt with tensioner and water pump is about £500??? It doesn't need a lift (they do most of the work by taking off the front right wheel and going through the wheel arch), so lots of garages should be able to do it.

I can't give you a cost Joy but am pretty sure you can't replace with a chain.

Our fan belt (Fiat Ducato) will be replaced in July when a major service and the MoT is done. I am expecting a large invoice and have put £800 aside hoping that will be enough. It's a local garage that we use for car and have done for many years so I know I won't be cheated.

Mine is being done on Tuesday, Fiat Ducato.

Quote is £800.
I got mine done about 4 years ago and it was £400. Prices will have gone up. And I used a cheap back street garage. ::bigsmile:

I made sure they used new parts and I watched them do it (partly because I went to pick up the van and they hadn't started!)... took the old guy, who was clearly very experienced, about 90 minutes.

It would be worth a couple of phone calls to get some idea if this is reasonable. I paid £350 and it would have been another £50 if the water pump was needed but it was still like new.
At £800 a go they won’t need to be doing anything else on Tuesday

Just pointing out the extorsionate prices charged by garages... And Joy's quite welcome to come here and I'll do it for £100 plus the cost of parts.
I was just being mischievous pappajohn (I've now added a wink to my earlier post (y))

Quite agree. The cost's mostly labour at anywhere between £80 and £160 an hour which is why I only have the can't be arsed or dirty jobs done at the garage. I don't see paying those rates for an Oik to oil my door locks and hinges, check seat belt anchorages, brake pads, wiper blades, tyre pressures, top up the washer fluid, etc. etc. ££££££££££

Yea, but, The Dark Side of The Moon is a hell over distance for a cambelt change.;) Joy would get lost probably, and end up on another planet anyhow.:whistle2:
Get another quote Joy, no way can it be £2750, more like 4/5 hundred quid for cambelt change, plus service costs like oils/filters if they are doing a full service.

There you go Joy 2 votes for Pappajohn john doing shall we start a campaign Eggs
Yes, I'll leave it to you to come up with a name for it cuz I couldn't think of anything funny.

'OW MUCH!!!
I must have missed that bit.
I wouldn't pay that for a replacement engine. They probably quoted that as a ' bugger off, we don't want the job'

Me neither let's throw it open to the forum but in the mean time joy have you soryed out a day when Pappajohn can do it and don't let him fob you off with excuses like a garage would

Ring around for prices and then take PJ up on his offer, can always cook him dinner and throw in a bottle of plonk.

That is after he has signed a warranty agreement  .

Think there has been a few threads on here re cam belts and from memory seems to vary from £400 ish to £800 ish. Main agent is going to be more expensive but generally has (should have) better understanding and equipment.

Good independent specialists are allegedly cheaper and just as able (say allegedly due to VW Golf issues, £40 diff between main agent and specialist)

Have you any contacts in the area you could ask for a recommendation?

Good Luck and be safe.
