I'm a Newbie
Hiya Guys

I have just fitted 6 Michelin Alpins (Winters) to the rig as I am going to Austria in January. The thing is on the cab door panel is says the pressure should be 79.5 but on the tyres it says max 80 psi so im not sure I want to run them at their max.

What do you recomend please?

Cheers..

Only thing you can do to start with is get your axle weights from a weigh bridge, then you can work out the tyre pressures from that, I don't imagine that you need them at maximum unless you are at the maximum load rating of the tyre of course.

Martin

80psi is the tyres maximum design pressure.

Tyre pressures should be set when the tyre is cold, a hot tyre can be quite a few psi higher so if the pressure is adjusted during a long run the tyres will be under inflated when cold.

I'm sure the max pressure on the sidewalls are for the American market.

Some tyres have 69 psi on the sidewall when they are actually a max 80 psi, then the 69 is for America, don't know if that makes sense.

Don't go above 80 psi (when cold) and it wil be fine

Hiya Guys

Should I have more in the fronts than rears? At the moment I have 65 fronts 60 rears

You need to provide more information before you’ll get a meaningful answer.

As a minimum, you should indicate your plated axle weights but, ideally, you should state your actual axle weights.

Based on what you’ve stated, all we can realistically say is that IF your front axle weight is GREATER than your rear axle weight, we’d expect your front tyre pressures to be higher than your rears.

You really need to provide some more information if you’d like a meaningful answer.

I would contact Michelin customer care with the tyre size and model with your axle weights from the convertors data plate, and ask for the advised pressures..

Having recently changed motorhome, and having just changed over to my winter tyres, as usual, I've asked Michelin for recommendations based on my actual weight. Having done this before, I expected a helpful answer. No such luck - just got a "we don't make recommendations, please refer to your vehicle handbook" type of answer. I've referred them to their last email, giving pressure recommendations for my last vehicle, but maybe they are in a**e covering mode. However, I've sent a query direct to the UK office. Meantime, I'll use Tyresafe.

Ive found the same. No matter who I ring I get total obfuscation and or look at the chassis plate which for me says 79.5 psi LOL. Ill go with what looks right and not exceed or come close to the tyres max pressure rating which is 80psi on these Alpins.

So for me im going with

65 front
60 rears

They look right and are not bulging too much. I might put the front up to 70 but will see.

On our burstner although low profile compared to yours but possibly the same weight 4500K and 1870K front axle and 1500K on rear axles I use 65psi front 55psi rear and find ok
