Rather easy survey just listening from our patio for calling Tawny Owls takes 20 minutes once a week. Did it earlier this evening and I had 2-3 males calling (males hoot, females is a Kweek call often repeated) our 6 year old grand daughter is staying with us this week, under my tuition she can now recognise many common birds visiting our feeders, she is a “townie” so we try to show her as much as we can about the natural world. It was an absolute pleasure to see her face when I took her out and she heard her first owls. The simple things.

That's lovely. I feel it's an indicator of how badly "civilisation" has gone astray when I see first of all fear, then delight when people are introduced to the "real" world.
What a wonderful gift you are giving to your grand-daughter.

Magic afternoon after 3 attempts this week we finally caught up with a hunting Barn Owl this afternoon and Charlie was the first to spot it she was so made up.
