It’s a pity there’s not a way of checking how many times a code has been used . My best year so far has been an £80 discount but half that was family. It’s nice to feel you’ve helped someone a bit. I get lots of advice on here as Nick and I aren’t practical so it’s a bit of payback too.

Hi
Can someone explain what this discount is, I been using BF for years coming to Spain and always paid the full prices as I thought these DCs were some how "not quite kosha", am I being a idiot? I suspect so.

Some of us have a Brittany Ferries Club membership, we pay a fee each year and then get a discount off all our bookings and various extras (eg free day cabins or a free breakfast etc).

As part of our membership we have a ‘friends and family’ discount code which we can offer for others to use and they get a discount off their booking.

If you book using our code we get a £10 credit, this is credited to us once a year to use against our bookings, I think the max we can get is £150.

We don’t post them on an open forum which is why if asked you see lots of us pile in posting ‘you have a pm’ .

I am a member , if you need a discount code you only have to ask :)

If you ring customer services they will let you know, the limit for the £10 allowance is 15 times but it is worth noting that it is still possible for others to use the code after this number but you do not get the £10.

How much discount do you get ?

I knew it could be used more than 15 times, I thought that if you could check online easily then it would be less suspicious and if a funster hit the magic 15 then they could stop being ‘generous’ for that year!! Just a thought to spread it about a bit, now that sounds rather naughty and not at all what I meant.

That's the thought that I had, due to a mix up last year I stopped using the friends and families facility, turned out that it hadn't been used as much as I had been led to believe, that was when I found out that there is no limit to the number of times that it can be used.

I don't know what you mean about being naughty but I suppose repeated phone calls may raise suspicion, seems a good idea to stop using when reaching the 15 limit.

‘Spread it about a bit’ has all sorts of meanings! Sorry , just my dirty mind at work.

If you are a member you get 30% discount on your crossing but not on the cabin. If you use a friends and family code it is 5-10%. We have Spanish membership which gives 15% discount on French crossings but French membership, which is cheaper, gives 10% discount on Spanish crossings. There are other benefits. It’s all very clear on their website.

Isn't there a risk that BF will discontinue the F&F discount code facility once they realise it's being given out willy-nilly?
Hmm, in retrospect maybe they feel it attracts more customers, although I think BF are the only company that has the Pompey to Bilbao or Santander routes.

I don't see giving out codes to Funsters as being given 'Willy-Nilly'

Watch this type of thread and you will find that Funsters who have the code will only give them out to Subs paying Funsters. Those who discover Motorhome Fun on line and ask, after registering but not joining and paying their subs will generally get short shrift.

Motorhome Fun is a genuine Club where, as far as I'm concerned each member is a Mate (in varying degrees)
I do not lose sleep worrying about whether or not BF consider my giving of the code is a breach of their perceived rules.

I feel the same but i do tend to put on the pm when I share the code that it is for their personal use.

Funsters do tend to politely pm again if they want to use it more than once .

Me neither.
Fortunately cost is irrelevant to me whether it's sites, ferries, red wine or fuel. It was merely casual musing from a business/commercial aspect with regard to how long it will continue; nothing to do with rule-breaking since their T&C's welcome family and friends to use the code. The 'willy-nilly' reference was that BF have no control over who uses the code and as I said, I don't suppose they care so long as it attracts customers.

Whilst we're on the subject of BF.

Many Funsters will not have been privy to the report shown on our local TV news station a couple of weeks ago. It might have also been shown on the South of England equivalent.

It was one of those 'Brexit is responsible for everything'
On the report they had one of the head honcho's of the Co. bemoaning the fact that bookings were slow and more than an inference that Brexit was to blame.

As a matter of noseyness I went onto their site and had a look at their prices. Now, this has to be read with the understanding that BF have a policy of fluid/flexible pricing which means that, (apparently) the more bookings for a ferry, the dearer the price becomes.
BF have a daytime ferry on Fridays, Plymouth-Roscoff. We regularly use it over the overnight crossing.
On the first Friday in July, long before the kids break up in England and Wales, the price for a 6.5Mts van and 2 peeps was £250.
This ferry regularly has a price of £180-90 so I would like to know how they can complain about low passenger numbers when they are prepared to skin their public by ratcheting up their fares.

It's now gone up to £270!!!

That's the opposite to the 'demand driven' pricing of businesses like Travelodge, Railways and the budget airlines where the further in advance one books the more competitive is the price. One would've thought that ferries were more heavily booked nearer their sailing date than at 8 months (e.g. July 2019) in advance.
There are some anomalies: On the Newhaven - Dieppe crossing that I've used regularly for 40 years it's more expensive for me and my motorbike than for a car and 5 passengers. Their reasoning is that 5 passengers spend more on the ferry than one chap on a motorbike. But I can't see the reasoning for the BF pricing except that BF exploit those who must book early or want to be sure of a place on specific dates as with many working folk who have to book their leave from work well in advance. BF then reduce the fare nearer the sailing date in order to fill the ferry up by attracting those who have a more flexible choice of leave from work or are retired and can travel on a whim (on a ferry).

It ain't necessarily so.......demand driven means just that, sometimes the nearer the date if the demand is low then the price drops......just happened to me for ryanair flights €40 in july when booked.....€9.99 this week:(

Agreed, demand driven can work both ways............Hope you have a great time in Mogadishu ;)

I am presently looking at the best prices for Brittany Ferries Plymouth Roscoff sailings in May/June with return in early July. I have joined "Boundless" who provide very good breakdown recovery through LV insurance. I've got cover for my MH in Europe and personal cover for any car I'm travelling in within the UK.
So what this to do with BF? Boundless also attract a 7% BF discount on Sun-Thu sailings.
But I am now trying to use all the info given about BF Club from members and if I read this correctly, a F and F discount is 10% off?
If someone would be happy for me to use there code that would be good, thank you.
