Since 1988
just had phone call from Brittany Ferries to inform me that my crossing to Spain has been cancelled as the ship will still be in dry dock.

So far so bad but, as we had booked a dog friendly cabin, they could not offer us a suitable alternative as they were all booked on the alternative crossings.

We have had to cancel the trip although we booked as long ago as August to secure the DF cabin.

Looks like France will get our business again!

Wonder if it is in for modifications to run on low sulphur fuel?

Yes. They have completed fitting sulphur scrubbers to the Normandie and have realised it will take longer than they anticipated on the Cap Finisterre. It will not be out of dry dock by the our sailing date.

Try writing to their customer services people, or for a quick response go to to their Twitter site and put in your complaint. The guys on there are really helpful. Sounds like you've been badly let down.

Thanks. I did consider that but decided that it was not such a big problem.

The cost saved will give me extra fuel to tour France.

I was already having second thoughts as a result of the threads here on the problem of insurance etc for electric bikes and their compliance ,or otherwise, with Spanish legislation. My wife has two artificial knees and the use of such a bike is necessary to her.

Putting the two issues together I reckon someone is telling me to avoid Spain!

Sorry to hear you have been let down but northern Spain is a lovely place.

I am sure you would both have a great time there.

Try them again next year (y)

When was your sailing?

We are booked on Cap Finistere in late March.

20th March. We were told it would be available from the following week but all dog friendly cabins were booked.

You may be OK but it may be wise to check.

Thanks for that.

I need to check my dates. I will be peed off if it's cancelled as I only have 2 weeks off and I don't fancy the drive down through France.

Good luck. Enjoy the trip for us!

Just checked and we are booked on the Friday 27th March crossing.

I am sort of relieved, but not overly confident that these works won't overrun.

If you don't need a dog friendly cabin they may be able to accommodate you on another crossing close to your original date.

Requiring a DF cabin we were offered two alternate dates but we couldn't travel on either of them.

Bon voyage.
