I'm travelling from Plymouth to Santander arriving at 1.15pm on 31st August in a VW Camper Van and towing a 4m Weta Trimaran Sailing Dinghy. I'm heading for Sitges before I go to L'Escala to take part in a sailing regatta.
I have read that disembarking can take up to 2 hours
Can anyone recommend a camping site within a reasonable distance that not too far off my route.
If the ferry takes 1-2 hours to unload I might be hitting peak hour in Bilbao (which I'd rather avoid) for routes via A-22 through Pamplona or AP-68 and AP-2 through Zaragoza.
The alternative is to avoid Bilbao and go the long route via the AP-2 through Burgos ->Zaragoza.
Also can anyone recommend secure parking in Sitges where I'll be staying with friends.

Have a look at Laredo for camping but I wouldn't be worried about travelling through Bilbao at rush hour as It's a motorway which flows freely, I would avoid the A21/22 via Pamplona as it's not all dual carriageway yet. Best stick to the AP68 via Zaragoza.

Stayed at Laredo last year for a few days before returning from Santander to Plymouth, which is about 40k from Santander. It is a free motorway all the way. It has a restaurant and little shop for basics. There are many supermarkets as you enter the outskirts of Laredo after leaving the motorway.

On arrival in Santander we have always disembarked fairly quickly. Hope this helps. Have a great trip.
