I can only find four berth pet friendly cabins is that all they do, or just all that is available?

I suspect so but four berth cabins are much more convenient for a couple. You will have two beds at floor level.

Two bed cabins have bunks, so one is reached by a ladder. Reluctant to start my trip with a leg in plaster we always go for 4 berth for an overnight crossing

Yep, I also go for a 4 berth with floor level beds, mainly because my Westie wouldn't manage the ladder.
