Just going to put in an order for Britstops but was surprised to find it was going to be £31.60 including postage. I haven't had it before and wondered if it was worth it. We're doing Scotland mainly this year and know we can wildcamp more easily there.
What do you think?

In the great scheme of motorhome life the cost of BritStops is very small ... we have been buying and using it for many years.

It is another string to the bow in finding stopovers and we have found some great ones.

I ordered our 2020 copy yesterday without paying carriage by using PayPay.

I’m sure you’ll get conflicting views on how good this system is, we were disappointed. We found many stops couldn’t accommodate anything other than cars in their car parks, some weren’t doing the scheme anymore and some we just found to be nothing like the description and we didn’t bother stopping.
of course, there were a few gems, just don’t rely on it too heavily!

It was cheaper as I have it every year and got mine a week or so ago. Tbf, first year I never used it but thought it was good. Over the last few years, I have used it increasingly and I consider that just 3 nights at Brit Stops and it's paid for itself and any nights afterwards are a bonus.
There will be lots of funsters coming along and suggesting to just ho to a pub of your choice and ask the landlord of you can stay overnight if you buy a meal etc and I can't disagree. However, you can still do that but also knowing that the stops listed do not pressure you to buy something. I've done quite a few and not one has ever made me feel uncomfortable because I just parked up, obviously after asking but without purchasing.

We find it incredibly useful - particularly in breaking a long journe.
We’ve never found places that could only accommodate cars - but you need to check the number of MH spaces advertised (some only have 1 or 2) and some mention that space is only for small vans, under 6m, etc. We also try to get to a host before it gets busy in the evening.
You get monthly emails with closures, changes, etc - we’ve had more problems where the landlord had clearly not told their staff they’d joined, but that seems to have improved.

CamperContact now lists a lot of UK pubs but not too many in Scotland. However, it does list a lot of parking places in Scotland which will be fine unless you need facilities. :)

We use them occasionally, and it's useful if there's nothing else about, or we fancy a night out.
But I find it an expensive way to motorhome because a meal for 2 and a drink, which we feel obliged to buy- fair enough (and often made abundantly clear by some publicans to the point of rudeness) can be costly. Added to this filling with water and emptying are often not available.
We prefer to use CL's in general, which give the facilities we need (if you are a member of one of the clubs)
Nevertheless, if you have the book, it may encourage you to get out for the odd weekend at a local britstop, so all good ?

Better to spend your money on camper contact subscription. I find most places will let you stay if your polite and buy a drink etc.

Britstops are great for the beginner or person who doesnt want to be on a big site.
You take away some of the guess work and make searching for a place to stop easier.
You have all the info there for your co pilot to read while you are driving.

Have a look at www.searchforsites.co.uk it's got most of the pubstops on there , no need to pay for the app, this is a screenshot of part of Scotland on there, the pint mugs are pubs where you can stay

The pub trade has been struggling for years, with many pubs closing on a daily basis.
IMHO, the key reason any pub will join the scheme, or allow you to stay without being in the scheme, is to increase their trade, and rightly so. If you stop at a pub, the very least you should do is buy a drink, preferably a meal, and enjoy their hospitality. To park up at a pub and sit in your van drinking your own, and cooking yourself, is the height of rudeness. ?

Absolutely, this is why it's not a free or cheap stop, we have used Britstop in the past but found we couldn't stay without useing the facilities for our own peace of mind, but then it proved to be far from cheap. :Eeek:

I spoke to him at a show and suggested that by reducing the quality of the paper the book uses (it's very expensive and glossy) he could reduce the price and get mor customers but he wasn't interested.

He could also put it online :giggle:

I don't see the point when there are lots of pub stops on searchforsites and Park4night, seems quite expensive when you can find the info elsewhere.

We haven't had the Britstops guide for a few years now because we don't spend much time in the UK with the van these days.

But we still think the idea is good and particularly liked the fact there were lots of other interesting places to stay that weren't pubs! ;) (y)

SFS has already stolen it and done that?
I think you will find these are 'pubstops' which are a different thing but I'm sure a lot of them are both.
Pubstops is another web site edited by someone on here and there is a map of them somewhere on here also.

This is a thread on it

Sorry that doesn't work for some reason
