Is your breakdown insurance invalid in these countries because of the Foreign Office Advice we have had indifferent replies from the CAMC regarding our Red Pennant Policy.

hya - have been in touch with Nationwide, we have a Flexplus account with the travel insurance upgrade including breakdown, they have told me we are covered for breakdown assistance in all European countries named in the policy including those on the "naughty" list.

cheers

Vehicle and breakdown insurance shouldn't be affected whatsoever due to the CV situation as vehicles can't get CV ... travel insurance is another thing entirely as it's the human that's covered.

Agree exactly with what Minxy Girl has said. (y)

Thankyou for your replies. I got in touch with CAMC today and got two completely different answers the first lady was very calm and said we were not covered for the personal side going through Holland and Austria, but we were covered for breakdown throughout the journey. I had cause to check again a few hours later ref some questions re the ferry and whether I should book the Shuttle instead, and totally different person came on the phone in a fairly aggressive attitude and had to go and ask her superiors ref my questions. She said under no circumstances was I covered for breakdown in Holland and Austria. I questioned her advice and she said I am taking your membership no and what i have told you is recorded, and with that I had enough. I totally agree with what you have said above what does the vehicle have to do with the virus i can only think it is the extras that come with it like a night in a hotel if you break down etc, but need to settle this before Thursday otherwise she said i would not get a refund on the Red Pennant Policy, (14 days cooling off period after purchasing). Their own statements online contradict this advice and you can cancel upto the date of travel under the circumstances we find ourselves in. I have had enough of the Caravan and Motohome club earlier this year i had big problems with them booking through their so called improved website but that's another story. I may need to just get extra cover for breakdown in the Netherlands and Austria although I may go via Switzerland to get round the Austrian bit. Does anyone cover for a few days breakdown re a 14 year old van and 7.5m long 3.5t. I feel I have been left in a situation by a club that is supposed to be at the forefront of the Motorhome movement but we leave on the 31st of Aug so need to get things sorted or stay at home, i have lost confidence in that club total chaos. Because we live in the Isle of Man we do not get the European Health Card, so we rely heavily on personal private insurance

And breath,

The IOM bit may throw a curve ball, but simply get an address on the mainland if it does, then Greenflag and Liverpool Victoria will sort everything else.

Yes I will come up for breath but merely trying to explain the background to my post thanks for your remarks

Agree, that is not good from the CAMC.

Breakdown services generally continued to operate across Europe throughout the full lockdown.

CAMC were hopeless when I wanted some specialist motorhome insurance cover.

Red Pennant cover from C&MC cover you during the pandemic. Have used it for forty years and had to call once for advice to source a broken wing mirror while a tugger

Hi for future reference to all on here with red pennant ins they will obviously not cover you personally for the dreaded virus in the naughty step countries but the most important announcement and I have treble checked this is that if you have breakdown ins with them as well ref Europe they will NOT. Cover you for breakdown in those countries. Please note I have yet to find a another insurance that DOES NOT provide breakdown cover in the risky countries. I have gone with other insurers at a competitive price and cancelled the whole Red Pennant policy, with a refund due

Are you a member as my policy as a member does not have restrictions due to Covid19

Yes I am a member Ian for the last six years is your policy a annual one taken out before the virus arrived mine was a single trip taken out before the restrictions ref Netherlands etc. If you have a annual policy you probably have all the privileges that we took for granted

The strategy we have taken is to be as self contained as possible by not using public toilets relying instead on our motorhome. OK, we do have to empty the toilet and the grey water and fill up with fresh water but keeping that to essential use. As to travelling we crossed the channel and went to an Aire in Oye Plage at leats 20 metres away from another of the three or four outfits and had filled up on fuel in Folkestone so got in to Germany via Belgium and the 20 miles through the Netherlands, not getting out of the van until we reached our destination in Boppard on the Rhine south of Koblenz. Have followed suit with the other two sites (SWMBO insists on swimming so using sites this year not aires largely). BTW, the Stellplatz in Worms in only €5 for 24hours and a 15 minute walk to start seeing the must visit places in Worms. We have been relatively anti social by avoiding long conversations with out neighbours but still do talk briefly with them. Everywhere you go in Germany the people are using face masks, no question but social distancing in busy places is an issue.
