Hello
Could anyone explain to me how and where I can fit the flashing beacon on my motorhome when broken down as I cannot reach the roof and putting it on the bonnet would be no good . I could possibly put it on the inside the van next to the rear window.
this rule in Spain is starting this year and being enforced over a3year period getting rid of the warning triangles

Can't you fix it to your roof permanently, and just use a switch, as on tractor cabs.

I thought the beacons were to be put next to or replace the warning triangle meters either side of the broken down vehicle to pre warn motorists

edit -:- I’ve been educated by Clipgate in post #5 👍

I certainly wouldn't want to be doing that to ours. Making more holes in the roof just in case I break down..No thanks.

The triangles are being done away with starting from July 1st .there is a 5 year changeover period. in july 2026 only the beacon will be legal.

is the drivers door or passenger door over here would be better, metal? so put it there .they are magnetic so you do not have to get out.

That's ok if they are 12v but I'm not sure they are? You would also have to be careful as when you switch them on they have gps tracking to alert the police to your presence.
Can you not reach the roof from inside through a rooflight?
They are magnetic . would be ok on a fibreglass or aluminium roof as long as you remember to take it back in when finished?

Thanks for all your advice cannot fix to roof
They magnetic so they not to be placed on the road
I actually have flashing triangles but these are not acceptable
On the cab door or inside the rear window seems best at moment got a fair while yet before law is enforced
Thanks

Interesting that their advice is to stay in your vehicle if you break down - the complete reverse of the advice given in this country.

I was coming over a side road near the Cat & Fiddle the other day. As I approached the bend, I saw a warning triangle on the road. A Taxi had broken down at the bend coming in the opposite direction. I am not sure why he had not rolled it back down the hill slightly, unless it was physically stuck. But it meant cars were coming over the DOUBLE SOLID lines to get around him. The warning triangle worked. A flashing beacon could not have been seen. The driver and passengers had also exited the taxi.

Rear window is not an option for most of us as we don't have one.
Surprised they are quite cheap, may look at a metal plate on a suction base that should work.
It does look like a much better idea than a triangle.
How many countries use the V16 system?

Thankyou! I looked at that one but there is no mention of the GPS/Bluetooth function thats mentioned here. Somehow I cant copy it so here's a screenshot.

I'd make a (removable) plate to locate it securely on the tip of my umbrella and poke it up through an open rooflight, then open the umbrella and lower it down until it covered the rooflight opening, preventing the entry of any rain.

I'm not clear why it has to be on a metal plate. If you've broken down, you're not moving and motorhome roofs are basically falt, so it's not going to slide anywhere, so just resting in on the roof should be fine. Agreed you could lose it if you forget when you drive off after the breakdown is fixed!

If it actually switches on when rested on a metal base I can see that being turned on where it's stored in some circumstances. The one linked to on Amazon has an on/off switch.

We have these fitted - cheap and quite bright.
www.amazon.co.uk/COLFULINE-Waterproof-Emergency-Flashing-Universal/dp/B089CWWWL4
Fitted as high as possible at the rear of mh, with cables fused in garage and an RJ45 extension cable running to the cab switch. There is no warning indicator on the switch though, so also added a flashing LED to show when it is on. Only used once in uk, but plod seemed quite impressed.
Dont know if it fits the criteria in Spain though as its not technically a V16 (GPS).
Logically though, V16 are meant for cars. How do you even get to the roof of a MH to stick a magnetic light on an aluminium panel and, unless its right at the back no one on the ground will see it in daylight.

That’s a great idea, then I can just open roof hatch & stick it to the roof with the beacon on top! Although it looks like we’ve got till Jan 2026 to comply by which time they should get cheaper & others (especially Spanish motorhome manufacturers) will have come up with more fixing ideas.

After looking at a lot of these beacons not one mentions gps in its blurb so I think best not rush in to purchasing one until that can be confirmed🤔

It won't work. From what I have just read they activate automatically when placed on a metal surface horizontally.

if it is "V16" & "DGT" approved it is correct one. I mentioned gps but it is geolocation.

The V16 when activated sends a signal out to the DGT 3.0 cloud every 100seconds, notifying operators. This allows operators to alter any signage to protect occupants on carriageways.

That amazon link appears to be translated spanish one as it appears to be correct .This is the spanish amazon link
