It was pointed out to me at the week end that the front axle nuts on my Boxer seem to be missing covers. The centre of the rear wheels have covers over the axle nuts but not the front. I have heard of lots of people having trouble with the front bearings after not a lot of mileage and wondered if this might be the cause. Should the front axle nuts have covers or not? Any input would be appreciated. If the covers are missing I will have to get replacements.

Front bearings are non-adjustable and sealed for life so don't need hub covers.
If contaminants can enter the bearing the seals are shot anyway and the bearing will soon fail.
The rears are adjustable and because of that they aren't fully sealed hence the covers.

Thanks Pappajohn. One less thing to worry about over the winter then!
