Box Trailer Suggestions or recommendations please? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I am looking for a medium size box trailer. Something like a Ifor Williams BV85.

Limited budget. Has to be used and twin axle.

Anyone point me in the right direction. They seem so expensive these days.

Why does it have to be twin axle. Single axle is easier to manoeuvre and depending on what you are going to carry in it should carry the weight. You are not wrong about trailers making good money at the minute, I have sold 3 box trailers and a flatbed in the last 12 months.

Used to have a Bateson 120v van trailer which is probably the type you are looking for, quite expensive when new though at over £2000 and not many used ones for sale either.

I would have to manually move a single axle down my drive, I have found twins easier. Also prefer the stability and safety of 4 tyres on the ground!.

Surely a single axle trailer with jockey wheel would be just as easy...........?

But not as stable in the event of a blow out !.

But I need a big trailer to take large items.

2.40m x 1.17m internal size.

It is too dark to go out and look tonight.

I am selling for £800 now as it stands.

Once I drag it out, clean it and fettle it. I will be putting it straight on ebay/facebook market place for £1,100 (£1,000 accepted) including wheel lock and hitch lock.

At £800 it is an absolute steal.

I looked at loads of trailers this Spring, borrowed a few and played around with them and concluded:

Twin axle: not a chance, way, way too difficult to move around = needed a motor mover on it
Hard panelled trailer: way too heavy
Curtain sided trailer: OK less secure but has the same payload and is simply a doddle to move around on my own.

The manoeuvrability is just about the most important thing for me and try moving a trailer by hand over a slightly uneven surface on a campsite, when it's raining and is half loaded.....

Ours is so easy to hitch/un-hitch and manoeuvre that i often take it off for 3 point turns as my reversing is so abysmal

What did you buy ?

A 750kgs curtain side:

From memory it's 120kgs empty and we usually don't have more than 150kgs in there so it's always easy to move around. Cost us £850 new on the road and then had to have it's MOT, registration and plates at about £150, plus road tax, plus motorway tax (you boys have it easy there...)

My 1300kg car trailer is single axle. I hate twins for the reasons already mentioned plus tyres crack before they wear out on any trailer so two is enough. I use TPMS for peace of mind.

They are really solid trailers, but up to a spec not down to a price. Big chunky frame all around that is fully galvanised and totally rust free.

I’ve got a twin axle Ivor Williams car trailer, its a doddle to move, load, Park, hitch etc, you guys need a butler or something!

ps. Loads of farm sales by me, tell me max price and exact type of trailer you want and I’m sure I’ll find one!

As I said, it needs pulling out from where it is stored and given a good bath. but here is a picture of it in situ. I have just given it a brief scrub down with water and a brush.
So not really clean. In this picture you can see the hookup leads. I plug the trailer into the hookup then my van into the trailer. This way I can disconnect the van and leave the trailer plugged in when I go shopping etc.

At that time the trailer had my chest freezer in amongst other things. My plans have now changed hence the sale.
