I'm thinking of buying a motorhome can anyone recommend a good book that covers all the practicalities of running a motorhome? Thanks. Paul

Thanks it looks a good guide to buying a motorhome. I'm also looking for something that covers the practicalities once you have one for someone who has never owned one before.

All the above are good suggestions. I would add go to a good motorhome show and several dealers to get the feel for what is available.

We also hired vans twice to be sure that we enjoyed the whole experience, could be a very expensive mistake to buy one and find you don't really enjoy it.

You could also look at this, for not much money...

there is not a question you could ask about any past or present model that will not find an answer on fun, subscribe and get all the answers you want. There are threads on everything from how to use the WC, yes really, how to dispose of black and grey waste, how things work and what to do if they don't. Where to go and where not to go. What more could you want for a tenner.

All the comments about the forum are bang on, but I found it useful to have books as well.

I got three.

The RAC book Motorhomes: a first-time buyers guide is quite good but very basic. Vicarious Books Go motorhoming and campervanning was very useful in scoping our first van and three month euro jaunt. More expensive is Motor Homes the complete guide by David and Fiona batten-hill. All in about £45 worth. Add a tenner for Fun it's still a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of a van.

A note on the value of Fun to a beginner. We couldn't get our cooker to work one night in Portugal somewhere. I posted a query and got an answer back in five minutes - the lid had a safety cut out and had to be absolutely vertical to work. Magic.
