Blue Elsan banned in Switzerland

We ran out of the tabs we have been using for the last couple of years whilst staying on the C&MHC site at Chatsworth.

The Caravan and Motorhome Club no longer sell the blue stuff, as it mucks up their septic sewage systems.
For some years they have only sold the 'green' version

Yep we been using it last 2 years. Perfectly good. Good deals on ebay for multi buys.

I would put the bag in a bowl as the only time we bought it the bag split, you don’t want that running loose under the stairs!

It is in a “Really Useful” box, so protected from damage and effectively bunded.

I take it you only use the toilet for 1s?…
I find it absolutely stinks like crazy after a day.

Mostly 1s, but not exclusively. It all depends on where I’m staying and if alternative facilities are nearby. Mostly I’m not on a formal campsite, so make use of onboard loo and shower.
I’m tending to empty the cassette after 3 days.

I joined Boots Manufacturing in 1975, and Bronopol had already been in regular manufacture in Nottingam for 15 years - though neighbours in the nearby flats did complain about bromine smells occasionally! (Boots also invented ibuprofen in the same labs), It has good preservative/antibacterial properties and is used in hundreds of products including cosmetics, and finding alternatives will be challenging.
Having said that, I use Aldi bio washing machine capsules - much cheaper than dedicated treatments.

Elsan and Thetford blue genuine article haven’t contained Formaldehyde for years so often when signs say don’t use them they just mean don’t use “any blue” as some fake versions or alternative brands of blue might contain formaldehyde. Or in the case of Switzerland they seem to be concerned about other potentially toxic chemicals too.

Signs like Jim’s are much better as there’s no confusion. Just use Green.

Someone is now going to pick me up on the fact that laundry detergent and Solbio isn’t green

Actually Elsan double blue does, or did, this was purchased this year but could be old stock.

It must be old stock as they are adamant on their website that they no longer use it. It’s all very confusing though.

What is the world coming to ....

Asbestos banned quite rightly so, with modern alternatives capable of similar performance and durability readily available. Toilet fluid and weedkiller, nothing is available that can do the job properly.

You may be correct, so do you know what is the constituent that has caused the ban?

It's Bronopol which can, in a miniscule of cases, mimic formaldehyde. Only Elsan & Solbio products are formulated differently.
