Hi Guys
Any ideas what the black insert is on the ignition barrel I've pulled it out and it won't go back in ?

It will be part of the base vehicle, not something added later so we need to know the base and year.
But it sounds like an infill trim with only that function....to fill the gap between the steering column shroud and ign barrel.

I don`t know but if you can tell us base vehicle and post a photo that would help the techies advise you.
Just click on upload a file, bottom right (y)

If your side and headlights normally go off when you switch off ignition this might be the thing to push if you want to leave parking lights switched on (or at least that;s how it worked on my Fiat Doblo).

But I don;t know what to do if your black bit drops off.

Does the part have a number of prongs around it or a groove around the circumference ?
If it has prongs it will only fit in one precise position.
If it has a groove you need to loosen or remove the column shroud and place the trim over the ign barrel then replace the shroud ensuring it fits in the groove in the trim.
