Hi, without going down the eye wateringly expensive route of sliding racks, has anyone come up with a cheap and effective way of storing their bikes in the Motorhome garage space. I need to plagiarise some clever individuals idea as I’m quite handy but can’t think of a workable design. They’ll be stored against the back wall but I’m not keen on drilling through the rear panel. Any photos gratefully received. Thank you ??

Ours are wedged in with all the other junk .

I got some square downpipe for guttering, and shaped two pieces so that I had two shallow channels that I stuck to the floor of the garage with 2” wide double sided foam tape. They have a plastic-sleeved rod across them which the forks locate onto, as I have to take the front wheels off to get the bikes in; they go in backwards.

The rearmost bike is held to the rear wall with webbing straps and hooks, and the front bike is held to it as they are most likely to go forward under braking, also with webbing straps. I found the bikes need holding down, as they can jump off their locating rod, so again I use webbing straps.

Hope that is clear!!!

I made a rack up using the roof rack attachments I already had for my car along with cheap roof bars I bought from eBay.

The bikes are clamped in by the front forks and then a short strap to lock in the rear wheel.

Works brilliantly (ok it’s not sliding, but it holds them solid in the garage).

Bought 2 of these (2 bikes!) About £16 each from Winstanley bikes

Cut a spare price of ply to width of garage floor and dropped into position, bolted these through. So no damage to garage and can be removed in 2 minutes if required.
Remove front wheels due to height of garage door and the front forks fasten to these in 2 seconds. Bikes are secure but as added stability bought a telescopic shower rail to mount vertically and bikes and front wheels can bungee to this.
Total cost less than £40

I did the same except I used electrical square duct as I could get the rite size to keep the wheel tight
I put a cable tie to hold the brake on & stop it moving side to side
I also have a flexible rod between the bike and a metal spar on the bottom of the bed again held on to the
Spar with a clamp (used for attaching duct/pipe to metal beams in industrial units) so can be removed
The flex in the rod keeps pressure on the bike at all times

Ours are just strapped to the back rail with some packing foam between the forks. Fitted removable peddles makes getting them in & out so much easier.

Out of interest, Paddywack. Why didn’t you put this into the new Moho’s garage?

As with all things motorhomes it was a question of compromise. In the PVC this worked OK, but it did mean you had to partially dismantle the bikes - front wheel and saddle removed. With the new van being our "forever" (as we all say!) van we wanted the ability to lift the bikes out and ride them - without any reassembly. I probably could have knocked something up but having spent what we had spent on the van thought "what's another £600" and splashed out on a Thule Veloslide.

I’m waiting until I get my grabby little hands on the garage, but I’m planning to put a plywood deck down, and bolt something like this to it.

Depending on the clearance height of the garage, I may lift it slightly to slide a table or similar underneath, then I imagine it will be a case of strapping with bungees or similar. I’ve bought folding pedals as well. I like the guttering idea. I might fit that to the ramp, it drives me nuts when the wheel turns and falls off. I also think tension rods (like you hang shower curtains from) could be incredibly useful for keeping things separate. I’m unreasonably excited about this!

I am too!! I have this kind of wheel holder but the bikes have to be held very steady or you could end up with a buckled wheel. I also think that guttering is the way forward but if I can find a long Accuride then all this could change.

Finally got the bikes to storage to test the fitting. Dispensed with the vertical shower rail as these clamps hold the bikes rock steady. When I saw the size of garage initially I thought we will never fill that lol!

Made one of these, as well as a conventional QR for normal forks, which is on a longer arm, to off set each bike
This saved drilling holes as I used the not very useful lashing rails that

came installed

This is the Fiamma bike rack in our garage. It is bolted to the floor only, I didn't want to bolt it to the back either. The bikes are folding bikes, but only the handlebars need folding. Plenty of room at the other side for junk.

We also used some standard bike racks that i cut down so i could fit them closer together, this is in the trailer.

They are bolted through the floor and we arrange the 5 bikes in alternate fashion.

The Radfaz stuff is nice (£££) very adustable, I used the same fixing method.

Oh bother. I just had a word with the workshop about sockets, and apparently my garage has top-of-the-range felt throughout. Lovely, but makes fixing things harder (I was planning to use suction glass lifters to make fixing points conveniently accessible. I don’t suppose Velcro will be up to the job!

The garage organization seems out of character Lenny, not too late for a spring clean!
Obviously, don't know me, I had just reloaded the garage after taking out the rubber mat and fitting gel backed carpet also fitted to the top third of the rear wall. You want to see it ½ way through a trip.
I am a very messy unorganised person.

Bloody hell ! So many spotless garages !
What with all the bits and pieces ( inc the twin tub !) there is just about room for two folding bikes !
