First of all a big thank you to everyone who posted pre operation good lucks and so on I can’t believe how many people care, I was hopping to see some of you at Shrewsbury but that went out of the window.
Im still in a state of shock but it’s now been 12 days since my 7hour quadruple heart bypass operation but I made it, 2 days in intensive care and 4 days on the ward then home because I was doing so well, since coming home im doing well still feel like I’ve been hit by a bus and getting short of breath but getting there it’s going to take some time after all it was kind of major one 😳😳. We are hopping I may be well enough to get away in the van in September if not October time will tell.

My main message to you all is all I had prior to this was a strange feeling in my left shoulder and left side of neck only very mild and only when hiking hard or mountain biking I’m 55 really healthy and fit, the guy opposite me only had a funny feeling in his lips after climbing stairs he was 58. My surgeon told me I am very very lucky to be alive and to have found out many people just pass it off and don’t make it.

PLEASE PLEASE, if you get anything on the left side , chest, arm, neck, jaw, lips anything push and push your gp, the MRI and the Echo don’t show anything it has to be an angiogram to show it up. It’s a silent killer. It’s 2k for a private angiogram I’ve said all my daughters are getting one at 35 and every 5 years after.

Thanks again and please all look after yourselves none of us know what’s coming.🙏

Pleased to hear your recovering well.
Take things easy, small steps 👍

Glad to hear your out and recovering..

2015 I had mine and all been good so far (y)(y) I never had any of the symptoms you describe, except a mild tingle now and again. guess they can all be different.

6 weeks after I was driving the motorhome and went to the first rally, within 10 weeks i was driving to Spain..
Hard at first but follow the advise and keep with the exercise..

Good to hear your doing well, take it easy that was a big op. (y)

Glad to hear that all has gone well, however, as others have mentioned, a big op, a zipped up chest and possibly wired together sternum and lots of inside handling, your body will take time to heal. Please don’t push it. Hubby is now 20 years post op so you have a lot of years in front of you.
I too have thought about paying for son to have angiogram, as my husband’s narrow arteries congenital, however it is not without risks as our cardiac consultant told us recently when I asked why not getting one after my heart attack. Needs careful consideration.
Look after yourself :hugs:

2016 I had my cabg x 3.
A few hours in ICU then 4 days on the ward.
I went to the docs with chest pain, luckily the doc specialised in heart problems. Had an ECG at the surgery then he referred me direct to hospital for tests.
Only 3 minutes on the treadmill then straight for an angiogram.
Took 9 months to get a bed for the operation but I'm still here.

The GP who saved my life died of an extreme insulin overdose in 2019......the mystery is he wasn't diabetic?

Unfortunately, insulin tends to be the method of choice for suicide in those with medical knowledge & access. 😢

Great to hear you’re doing well after the op, plus the initial shock of it all, I wish you a full recovery👍👍
I’m off for a 24hour ECG next week🤔🤔
I just hope I don’t take after my dad😳😳

A friend of mine's father in law committed suicide. I asked her was he depressed and she said no the days before his death he was the happiest we had seen him in years. Made me think he had decided to end his life exactly when and where he wanted to and that made him happy  He probably thought that his family would be better off without him too, so sad.

Have you got the obligatory rolled up hand towel to grasp to your chest when you cough?
That is an absolute lifesaver for the first few weeks post op and relieves so much pain from the butchered sternum when you must cough.

I've known for the best part of some time I could commit suicide or murder with what's always in my fridge and also know the best place to jab with it to avoid detection for as long as possible thereafter - only problem with that is, gaining access to the victim's body when they're alive and kicking, to do it!

Haven't been tempted to do either, so far anyway.

Crikey Steve is it seven years since . . . Time hurtles past . . . and yes its certainly worked out great for you . . and keep it up

I have my cushion I couldn’t be with out it how can a cough be so painful😳😳 mind you my neck kills where the lines went in an my leg where they took one of the veins from I’m sure keyhole surgery in the leg was more painful then normal surgery.
pain killers all the way👍

Listen to your body. Take things slowly. My Stepdad had his triple heart bypass 25 years ago and even now I swear he is fitter than me (y)
