Recently posted this on the Fulltimers Forum but also thought to post in the main arena for discussion

We are just about to become temporarily homeless as the exchange of contracts is soon.Decided not to look for new property until we have sold up,therefore we will be fulltimers with stuff in storage untill we ????? .Well thats the problem,we dont want to rush in to a decision so might just wander around for a while untill our ureeka moment arrives.

Park Home (cheap but rent to pay)
Bricks (cheap/expensive depending on where you buy,but with rental potential)
Nothing (invest the "home" cash for a 5% long term return approx)

Initial thoughts are to buy a van in the states and use it 4 months a year over 5 years approx.Use our van for Europe 4 months approx and the rest at "home" and/or fly to holidays to rent holiday property.

BUT -I believe without some form of address life could become difficult on admin stuff ,maybe declare we live at our sons house ?
This is a good problem to think about but feel we should settle the matter by xmas to start 2015 fresh.

Whatever you do you will need a UK contact address to stay legal. We have been full time since 2009 and use our daughters address. Without a contact address you cannot hold a UK driving Licence, Register a vehicle or get Insurance.

With Full timing insurance you do not need a UK residence or to be on the Electoral Roll but it comes at a cost. Our full time insurance is as much as the council tax was per year. Comfort say that if you long term or full time you need Full time insurance unless you have a property or rent with more than 9 months tenancy left on the agreement. Most landlords only give 6 months now. Other insurances claim to give 365 days cover but require a residential address and Electoral Roll registration at that address. They also have trip limits.

A UK address is a must to stay legal. Rented property will return much better than savings interest and keeps you on the property ladder/ provides you with a fallback position. Using a relatives address is ok as long as you pay the extra community charge and they are not on benefits or your "rent" will be deducted from their income.
No UK address and more than 6 months out of the country and you lose the right to use the NHS without paying.

Thanks so far.The reason I quoted 5% is that is less than achieved over the last 5 years since I retired using a stocks portfolio for income drawdown. However its looking that a address will be a major factor in our decision. Thanks again for the helpfull replies
