I find it a little odd that people go camping/caravanning/motorhoming and want to do everything they do in their normal home. To me, this lark is a different way of life, and you do things differently, such as showering in the van. It simply does not work to hope the shower will stay hot while you have your normal 20 minute shower. To me, its part of the fun, doing things differently, trying alternative methods.

My parents camped with the 4 of us and everything packed in the boot of a tiny Morris Minor. My first time abroad was 50 years ago on my own on a scooter with a single pole tent which was heavy by today's standard and went on the front carrier. In the back panniers went all my clothes, food, sleeping bag and lilo (a good night's sleep still is essential) and other gear needed. My night time light was a 4.5 volt battery connected to a single torch bulb which clipped on the pole. With a maximum speed of just 50mph, I covered over 3000 miles in a month. Fabulous!

OK, as we get older we need more creature comforts, but by taking everything and anything are we in danger of losing one of the simple pleasures of motorhoming, that of a simpler no-frills lifestyle.

...well I don’t take the lawnmower, and don’t miss it either.

Some people like their creature comforts, nothing wrong in that.
On the recent microwave thread, the OP just wanted the convenience of being able to use one and why not ?

the only thing i try to leave behind................is work................seldom happens:(

We're all different. For me the idea is to be away from the everyday life at home, in a great setting. I've had my share of basic camping and don't want to go back. I know it's not "camping" if you take a bathroom and central heating with you, but I can live with that.::bigsmile:

I take a claw hammer to get the rock pegs in, my favourite tool

For me the lifestyle is about one thing only: relaxation. To that end anything that makes life easier, as perceived by wife & I, is essential. A decent bed, ablution and toilet facilities, are the minimum. Anything that makes cooking and cleaning easier are essential additions along with devices to make driving, parking, and towing a small car as pleasurable as it can be. After all that has been taken care of one can plan for activities. Activities are why you leave home and can range from socialising, sunbathing, and sharing a drink or two, to sight-seeing, cycling, walking, climbing, swimming, etc. These are the 'simple' pleasures - not struggling to live in a field. :D

Why does everything need a "label"
Camping, glamping, chugging, tugging, dogging !

Its just not working and part of the "leisure" category as far as I am concerned
Sitting in a tent with a candle under a can of baked beans doesn't 'do it' for me.....but it's not "wrong" in my eyes if it 'does it' for someone else

I rather think it comes down to everyone being different and enjoying different things. There is no reason everyone should enjoy something, merely because I do, and vice versa. The mere fact that I personally don’t enjoy or value something, should not automatically devalue it for anyone else.

For me, the entire point of having a Motorhome is precisely to take the comfort and convenience of home with me while seeing different parts of the country. Best of both both worlds! Doesn’t mean everyone else is doing it wrong.
