Do not connect to a public wifi point with the name "%p%s%s%s%s%n"

It will permanently disable your wifi, reboot and reset doesn't fix it.

I am posting this because I know a lot of you use iPhones, and travel a lot and free wifi is enticing.

The fix looks quite easy

While the issue isn't reproducible on Android devices, iPhones that have been affected by the problem would need to have their iOS network settings reset by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and confirm the action.

But just connect to a trusted wifi (ask an Android user what they're using  )

! It could be an easy fix but needing you to next re-enter all your previous wifi networks mind

Yup that's an old one. I still can't believe companies get infected due to SQL injection attacks like this still. So easy to avoid using named parameters.

Fixed on iOS 14.6
Stay up to date!

Gordon

14.6 is affected as far as I know. Not going to get to deep on this one as I am not an Apple user and I am not interested in such a trivial exploit that is so easily avoided once known about.

Why on earth would you connect to a WiFi network CALLED: "%p%s%s%s%s%n"

Perhaps I'm just not trusting enough or not as silly as some, but would you?

Back to my coffee.........
If your security conscious no you would not also the more publicity it gets more 13 year olds may try setting up a Wi-fi point like this for a laugh.

Not long enough, but a little common sense helps..........

Then the 13-year-old will learn a hard lesson and won't be laughing.

The problem these days is the 13-year-old will get told "it's ok I will buy you a new one or model - in my day the 13-year-old would have been told "silly thing to do now you will have to wait until I can afford to have it fixed and then get a slap round the ear just for good measure.

ok. This was a pretty irritating bug and potentially expensive if you didn't know how to clear it. But latest news is this can be used to exploit your phone.

Just keep your devices to date, the article is a bit out of date as it outlines

‘All iOS versions starting with iOS 14.0 and prior to iOS 14.3 were found to be vulnerable to the RCE variant, with Apple "silently" patching the issue in January 2021 as part of its iOS 14.4 update. No CVE identifier was assigned to the flaw.’

possibly more worrying is NSO spyware
