Thanks for the warning, we won't be there this year, sadly, but hope it's brought under control soon and the effects on yourselves are minimal. It'll have a disastrous effect on wildlife, but knowing the capabilities of the Swedish Emergency Services the threat to humans will, I'm sure, be minimal. Good luck and if you have time please keep us updated.

Thanks, update on the situation, the fire is out after 1 week of water bombing planes, the fire spread over 40km,and was raging for 1 month, there was minimal effects to live stocks,1 person lost there life ,and not to many homes and farms were lost, the cause of the fire was caused by a forest machine that caused sparks from its metal tracks moving over the rocky landscape, thanks again regards Alf.

Hi
Unless I am mistaken -----you can stop anywhere (sensible) for a couple of nights or so unless it states otherwise--------Norway/Sweden/ Finland are heaven for wildcamping motorhomes and their attitude to motorhomes has to be experienced to be believed. The weather is bit of a gamble but for us last summer it was fantastic.
Norway is expensive---

You're not mistaken, allemansrat (my spelling is rubbish) means you can park anywhere sensibly, out of sight of a private dwelling. We've also asked farmers if we can park in the lea of barns etc in bad weather, never been refused, it's why we always carry a number of half bottles of scotch to say ta!

Hello Kalleveiken and welcome to Fun. That's a wonderful country as is most of Scandinavia, nature is very forgiving and that area will soon be back to normal.

Have you been to Sweden? Which part of our long country have you visited. I live in the southwest part of Sweden and was just to visiting my brother in law when I took the pictures of the forest fire. I've been thinking to observe developments in fire area to see how the nature recovers.
I am happy to give you tips on nice destinations in Sweden. Just send me an email.

Thank you for that! There have been a few threads on here in the last few months on Scandinavia and much talk on how to get there with the Harwich to Esbjerg route finishing, although Broken Link Removed are offering hope.

We have been to Sweden in 1978 with a trailer tent and again in 1996 with a caravan, both times via Gothenburg. Sadly it was more a route to Norway although we did spend some time up the west coast of Sweden and around Lake Vanern on the way to Oslo and beyond. We camped in some wild places on the earlier trip with a trailer tent before I knew anything about "wild camping". We have talked about travelling just to Sweden this year and if we do it will be in between our trips to the Faroes in March and August so maybe May/June. It will be easier in a motorhome than the trailer tent that's for sure. :)
