Having fully enjoyed our stay at Oxford C&CC and also at York, we're wondering if there are any other scenic / historic / pleasant places served by a 'local' site? We're not really into long walks / bikes / buses, so it really has to be somewhere on the edge (or centre) of town! Either Club, or Independant so long as they have leccy.

UK Suggestions greatly appreciated 👍

CMC allows you to filter their sites listing based on town or village within a mile and ehu. Word of caution though. Check before you book because the CMC can be very liberal in location and the size of towns and villages. Useful start though.

I was checking sites last week and came across Tewksbury Abbey Campsite.
A Caravan and Motorhome Club site, but open to non members.
Looks a good site, although not visited myself, just viewed website.
According to information, only a short walk into Tewksbury itself.
Have placed it on my list of sites to visit at some point.

Well worth a visit!

Don't really want any more folk to go here however, just found whilst walking from Saundersfoot to Tenby www.meadowfarmtenby.co.uk. Not cheap, but what is these days? Read the old reviews by all means however, the owner has just spent a pile on new facilities and these combined with the older ones make it very nice indeed. Warden Steve (ex RCT) very friendly, perhaps surprisingly when I mentioned our son was a bootneck, and allowed us to look around the small but very well appointed new facilities.
Will definitely be going back to stay - stunning views and 10 to 15 minutes walk into the heart of Tenby

If you're pitched at the back of Tewkesbury site, it almost takes you longer to walk to the gate as it does to the nearest pub!

Sorry missled you nearly 2 miles I didn't realise it was that far.
Had me worried for a moment there - I thought maybe we went to the wrong site. It is a reasonable walk, but worthwhile (and the Marina with restaurants and a supermarket is quite a lot closer)

Bury St Edmunds has a 5 longer vehicle overnight stop at Ram Meadow Car Park. Very close to Abbey Gardens and town centre.

But its an Asda and all the restaurants are crappy chain ones.

Keswick and it’s next door neighbour Derwentwater.
Lake lapping against the site, a park and motor launches across the Lake in one direction, in the other the excellent Booths supermarket and the town centre, Chuck in a museum about pencils. Fell walks to Latrigg, Walla Crag, Cat Bells and Skiddaw. Wow beat that.

Don’t go if it has been raining a lot…..the rivers Avon and Swilgate tend to cover it…..!!o_O;)

Salisbury C&CC at Hudsons Field between Old Sarum and the City easy walk to either😊

Monmouth
Ross on Wye
Malmesbury
Upton upon seven
I don't think anyone has mentioned Bristol marina, it's still there at the moment I believe.

You forgot to mention the bus station just 400 metres away with access all over the Lake District.

Did not know that 🙄
I think they have had three closing dates and reprieves in the last couple of years. The alternative site the C&MC had hoped to use nearby has had planning permission refused recently.

Riverside Camping at Stratford, first time we’ve been and here now, lovely site and friendly staff. Level grass pitches with elec and water points all around, fabulous bar and restaurant and I really do mean fabulous.

On the riverside so regular water taxi into the centre Stratford marina for 2 quid or a 15/20 min walk to same marina

I’ve paid £81 for 4 nights so a bargain imo and will def go again 👍

CAMC Sites at Hawes, Lower Wensleydale for Leyburn, Warwick Racecourse, Southport, Castleton. Bury & Buxton but a good walk to both.

Lady’s Mile at Dawlish, Sandfield House Farm Whitby but a good walk.

HERE is a link to a thread I started back in 2012 which may be helpful too but not all walking, just no car needed 😜
