Going to Tignes in a few weeks and need some walking shoes for when not skiing, any recommends? Don't want to spend loads but don't want crap either.

Now in bluewater shopping centre.

After many years of walking I found Berghaus to be the most comfortable and hard wearing.

I wear 'Keen' walking shoes, warm, comfortable and waterproof. Just broken out a new pair I bought a few months ago. Used to wear 'Merrell' but found they wore out too quickly.

I wanted some decent walking shoes, bought Scarpa Cyrus gtx, RRP about £120, got for about £96 from go outdoors with a price match plus 10%.
Very disappointed though the soles have worn down very quickly with only moderate use.
I'll try something else next time

For hiking, I've always found Berghaus to be the most comfortable & hardest wearing, pricing reasonable (for what you get).
Otherwise, it's almost exclusively Timberland for me, supremely comfortable and hardwearing, although Clarks sometimes have comparable offerings (particularly the Gortex versions).
For cheap and cheerful, Karrimor at Sports Direct aren't too bad. Comfortable enough, reasonably hard wearing and less than £30 a pair (y)

I think its a boot version I want, more likely to keep the snow/water out.

I've had about 10 pairs of Karrimoor Mid Mount walking boots. Fantastic for dog walking on any terrain. Gonna try the shoe version soon.

About £35 at Sports Direct.

Just looked at some Timberland but they looked a bit crap to be honest.

I can vouch for the Grisport. Manic is my other 1/2 and I have the shoe & the boot, have never had to ‘break’ them in comfortably from the start.
Merrill don’t seem to have the life span they used to have!

If I was walking it would be my walking boots. For dotting around resort it would be Sorel snow boots- easy to pull off and on!

Scarpa for when am in the hills, excellent straight out the the box
TNF for general walking when in the van.
Am the same about merrell seem they don’t last that long, however purchased a pair in York 18 months ago and still going strong now they have a Vibram sole.

This thread helped persuade me to buy these Berghaus Explorer walking shoes
Don't know if they will be a good fit (I'm very fussy with footwear!) but £57 delivered & free returns from Amazon so worth a try.

If it is for snowy areas, none of the Merrell range were waterproof last time I looked. Comfy trainers and sandals though.
I have a pair of Inov8 roclite boots. Very lightweight and great grip - we don't do snow so flip flops out of choice for the beach!

I have found the continental sizes (lasts) to be too narrow for my feet. Altberg boots are available in different widths, though. Think Merrel do widths, too.

There you go. The best shoes for you are the best shoes for you, not the ones that are best for everybody else.
