Hello, we are wondering what security devices and locks etc would u advice for a Welcome 85 MH, we r quite new to this, hence the question lol
Any advice would be welcome !

Vanbitz, anything less and you're just not being serious about security.
Would agree, sadly insurers are now effectively blocking them for a lot of new vans, we wanted to use them, but they would not even cover us third party to drive away from the dealers without an alarm and immobiliser fitted, sadly as vanbiyz only install in Taunton this was not possible.

If it helps anybody Caravan Guard insurers normally allow a period of grace for fitting security upgrades. They also offer "free" 14 day cover with quotes. So you can have 14 days then your 52 week policy kicks in with tracker etc fitted.

The best things I've fitted are a swivel seat lock (Oxford Patriot disc lock) and thatcham dead locks on the front doors.

I disagree.
Our previous van was new from dealership. Insurance was agreed based on being booked into vanbitz for alarm fit. We sorted collection date a few days before alarm fit.
They just didn’t cover theft of van until alarm fitted.
We just didn’t leave van so it can be done 👍

Depends on insurer, our previous one allowed us to collect and have fitted, but not covered for theft until fitted, our current insurer wouldn't consider at all.

Same with us. Just had a new motorhome and wanted Vanbitz security fitted. Some insurers wouldn't even insure us to drive from the dealer straight to Vanbitz and have the security fitted on the same day we picked it up. Daft, as they also acknowledged that the Vanbitz systems were amongst the best on the market, so their longer term risk exposure must be reduced. Anyway, did find an insurer that would insure me, just not for theft or any damage from attempted theft, until appropriate security had been fitted.

Phantom or Moving intelligence as they are now called do some good systems and the backup is good as well.

That's what we have, more complicated to use ( or maybe just the integration with the MB base vehicle?) but now seems ok.

Don’t forget physical deterrent as well. We supplement out alarm with a Disclock steering wheel cover and a set of pedal locks.

I just set it from the app, dead easy 👍
Can you set night mode with that? Our alarm sets automatically when locking van, but internal alarm has to be turned off by pressing central locking key to lock again after a few seconds.

"effectively"? I mean mine simply said get it fitted within a couple of weeks, send us the proof and sorted. Simple. I wouldn't be using an insurer that tried to hold me to ransom.

Never tried but think it would need the key fob, very rarely use alarm at night but if we did we would just set it as normal and close the door to the lounge and then the PIR won't see us going to the toilet in the middle of the night

Ours is totally independent of the van locking as we only have one door and it isn't integrated into the chassis electrics.

Thanks for all the replies, some really useful information from you all.
I will keep u updated with what we get, we have got cctv on it 24/7 which is also a big help......... well i hope it is !

Safeguard gave us a 24 period but we had to stay in the vehicle overnight - not an issue as there is a campsite at vanbiz

Performance direct insured ours without alarm /tracker then put vanbitz on kept it for the year then changed to comfort , could you not pay monthly put alarm on then cancel and go with someone else providing they will insure you without alarm .

I'm looking at additional security for travelling abroad. I already have Vanbitz Growler and immobiliser but don't really want to spend a fortune having looked at the Dislock steering wheel lock but in the end might decide to go for it.

Has anyone got one of these sourced on Amazon:

Stoplock HG 134-59 Original Anti-Theft Key Lock Steering Wheel Lock - Anti-Theft Security Deterrence Device for Cars and Other Vehicles, Yellow.

Seems useful I might also buy a foot pedal lock as well, any suggestions?

Cheers Smudger55

Personally I think if you have a VanBitz alarm and Immobiliser you are pretty much set up.
For piece of mind I'd get the VanBitz tracker upgrade as well.

For visual deterrents any type of visual steering lock is good enough, because anyone seriously trying to nick the van is going to have to be tooled up to do so.

The main advantage of a baseball bat vs. a disk type of lock, is the storage space.
I regularly drive two minibuses, one has a base baseball bat, the other a disk.

I find the disk one a pain in the arse to put on, take off and store.
Which means it does not get used every time it should be used.

The baseball bat type is easy in comparison to put on/take off and store.
(Which is also why my Motorhome has one as well)

The other good little item of security is a motorbike wheel lock designed to lock through the holes in the break disc on the wheel.

You spin your driver seat to facing backwards and then drill a hole in the right place and use the motorbike lock to stop is being spun back without a load of cutting.

It's just one more little thing to make the van harder to steal, but they can still drag it onto a low loader no matter what you do.

May be an easier option to use, and is well reviewed.

Good afternoon,
I was thinking of locking my Ducato drivers swivel seat in the reverse position but can’t seem to find where to lock it? It’s a 2024 model. Could you enlighten me or any photo’s
Many thanks

Get a dog or pretend you have one. Dog bowl out & chain on the floor. Realistically if someone wants your van they will get it especially a newish one.
Or have an older one that’s not worth nicking. (Hopefully says me & my 2001 Eura Mobil)

We had the same integration issues and it took a while to resolve them. It turned out to be not the best initial installation by the dealership. We contacted MI direct, they arranged an engineer and we installed a few more sensors whilst we were in. It now works fine and no further issues to report.
Also, we had Vanbitz on our previous MH. A great system along with first-class after sales.

Hi,here you go. On a 2019 chassis, You are going to have to drill a 14mm hole in the swivel plate to allow this to work. For a lot of people this ultimately off putting. Nothing in and of itself is bullet proof, but layers of security are the best way to keep what's yours.
Mike.
