Hi guys behind my locker doors the front of the lockers are faced in steel sheet badly painted, in some areas over rust from new. I have wire brushed them and removed all the loose rust, and then intend to Hammerite them, but is their a better way that will last?

Hi Olley

I would paint with Kurust first, this stops rust forming under the new paint, .. then Hammerite

If it's out of sight Waxoyl it after painting, it only needs a thin coat.

Owatrol Oil is a rust preventer that mixes with oil based paints.
Much loved product in the marine industry.

It improves the way oil paint spreads, makes it easier to paint and to get a better finish.

Neat Owatrol Oil penetrates rust, and then soldifies.
You can overpaint with oil based paints.
You may well be able to overpaint with Hammerite.

Hi Olley,
Paint it first with Hydrate 80 Rust Killer, then paint over with Hammerite, H/80 was voted best rust killer when tested against all other's in it's class by Practical Classic Car's.

Hi yes it is structual, without it the bottom falls out of the lockers. ::bigsmile: It might be possible to replace it with ali. but that wouldn't be a 5min job.
