Off to Portugal week after next, which route would you recommend.
Thought I would go directly to the Algarve first before the hotter weather arrives, and start touring north later on.
Burgos, Salamanca, Caceres Seville then into Portugal looks the most direct route.
Never been before so your suggestions would be appreciated.

That is a good route.

If you have the time to stop at the campsite at Castrojeriz just beyond Burgos the owner Roberto can take you to see the Great Bustards. This is a perfect time to see them. Take binoculars as they may be the largest flying bird but they are shy. :)

I hung a right at Zafra before Seville and headed to Minas de Sao Domingo, interesting old mining town. Then down past Alcoutim to Castro Marim.

That's exactly the route we took, no problems at all

If by best you mean easiest and quickest then the route you suggested is the best. Just done it, but it is a bit boring. More interesting would be through Portugal.

Yes, I plan to do that on my return from the Algarve back end of june/July, maybe take in the costal route around Galicia.

That makes sense as the weather should be better. :) Northern Spain and Portugal not at their warmest at this time of the year.

We remember a few years back that a Fun Member was stuck at the aire in Caceres with a broken windscreen after a bustard hit it, or it may have been a vulture, come to think of it.

If you're in Burgos you must go see the cathedral. Compared to all the other european gothic cathedrals it looks like the stonemasons finished work last week (They didn't)
