I'm sure this has been asked but cant find it so apologies.
Is there a panel van conversion that is known for good insulation? Our local dealership says none of them are due to the metal barn doors. Is this true? I cant find out which is the most popular with skiers. Happy to travel.abroad to buy if necessary.

Mine is, but I'm not selling:)
Difficult to know which manufacturer is best for insulation but I do know that the doors can be insulated quite easily. Don't know how draft proof they are though as I have a bulkhead between the fixed bed and the van doors.

There’s an article in this months MMM, mind you it’s probably next months as delivered today, in which a couple mention about using while skiing, think it’s a Wildex, hope that helps.

The only way you will get the best is to commission a company to build you one, to your spec.
Spray foam insulation to all areas even rear doors, sliding door, fresh inside, waste outside but in a heated compartment with a pipe from the blown air attached to it, all water pipes insulated, no exposed water pipes. Heavy duty curtain to block off cab area and rear doors.

Thanks @CazPaul
I feel our needs are quite normal though. Isnt there a make/model that already has this?

No, CS reisemobile in Germany will build you one, you can pick a second hand one up on mobile.de, some even have the waste tank inside but they must be ordered at time of build.
Very expensive though, even second hand. This one was fully winterised, the owners went skiing every year, waste inside even.

Our Rapido has dedicated ski storage and a Truma 6 heater. The waste water tank is designed to be heated by the blown air system, apparently.

The converter's website and brochure plays on the quality of insulation installed, but doubtless other brands will claim exactly the same about theirs!

Possl/Globecar are well insulated and should be fairly easy to find secondhand. They are very popular and can be taken skiing, so to speak. :)

I have a WildAx and find it is warm in the winter, have spent one Christmas and one New Year in it. Very warm if on electric hook up with the heating on, Not sure I would go skiing in it though! And it has heaters in the water tanks, waste & fresh, although I have never used them. I Use longer external screens to cover the air intake in the bonnet too.

Wildax.
They have won loads of awards.Check out their website and Facebook page.
They have very recently become part of the French Rapido group but are still being run by it’s founder Duncan Wildman. They have moved into a new factory still in Yorkshire.
I have the very ‘baby’ model the Pulsar HiTop 5m long.Delighted with it so far.

There are a few PVC that are usable and can be spect with waste tank heaters but you need to be on hook up to use.
You will need external covers for windscreen whatever van you go for.
Some of the German models can come with a winter pack but that's just an insulated blanket for the back doors and the waste tank heater.
I would worry more about getting the layout you want, as long as you have gas and electric you can keep the van warm.
Couple of weeks ago in the Dolomites there were vans with pop tops in the campsite though they did have an extra insulated cover over the canvas pop up bit.

Our Fiat/IH PVC is ok in the rear but the front of the van is cold at night. Outside water tank as well - it would need heaters and EHU.

We have a 25L on-board gas tank - how long would it last running 24-7? With electric heating only I doubt it would keep the van warm enough.

Not sure I would want to go winter skiing in it. You would survive but doubt you would enjoy it.

Had a Murvi Morello for 9 years. Lovely van but I wouldn't want to stay in it for a week's skiing in minus 20 deg C with a wind blowing. The whoosh bang seals, the rear door seals, the thermal bridges, she canna' take it, Capt.

...they promote their insulation qualities on the front page of their website.

They are quite open to making alterations & tweaks, so I'm sure they'd enhance/upgrade the winterisation if you specify what you want.

Have a look at the Pilote panel vans. They are very popular in Sweden I believe. The only mod I have done on our van is made a seal for the back doors where they come together

This is an incredible testament to Globecar!
Do you know which one he had? He mentions Duchy but that could be his name for it.

Thanks. We wouldn't have a clue how to make the seal but we'll check them out.
I use some pipe insulation which nicely jams inside in the vertical space in the centre where the rear doors meet, this sort of stuff, if you want you could cover it to make it look better, I've also got a pair of curtain on a shower pole in the rear so they also help to keep the bed area warm (including insulating pads on the rear door windows) and means that if the rear doors have to be opened the curtains stop the heat escaping, I've also put one behind the cab seats too as we don't need to use them with an L-lounge set-up.

I was going skiing I'd also add a full length curtain over the sliding door on a spring-fit curtain/shower pole so that when opening the sliding door the curtain could be pulled back just enough to get in/out and therefore help to keep the heat in.

Stop teasing me with your BIG fridge freezers in PVCs ... you are cruel! :(
