Not trying toohard to think about when we had back for blighty. But is it best to buy beer and wine on our journey around France, or is there somewhere to get it nearer Calais? Or current tipples are Cremant and Grimbergen multipacks, with some chateauneuf du pap amongst others.

We’re not experts on wine by no means but found that there are one or two varieties that we like.
I found that the supermarkets in the region of where the wine is produced are the cheapest and offer more variety but I suppose it depends on whether you want to trail your stick around with you or prefer to pick it up at the end of your holidays.

We usually buy as we go you can then buy a bottle or two to try then buy more if it's good. If you like cndp why not try some rasteau or lirac or gigondas they're a similar region and I recon you get nicer wine for the same price.

We normally pick up the quantity in an Auchan and the quality in vineyards
Unfortunately the Auchan didnt have their normal bargains. LIDLs however did have some quantity wine.
Quality stuff we buy in boxes at the vineyards we stay at.

Grimbergen you should be able to but most places. The beer selection at most Auchan or Carrefour hypermarkets are pretty good anyways.

We buy some in vineyards and the rest in a supermarket near the channel. Only for weight reasons. Otherwise we’d buy everything as we travelled around. Boxed wines minimise weight and quality.

In the UK you need to spend £8-10 to get decent wine, even then a large percentage of the price is tax. In France, €6-8 euros buys better wines.

I have not been able to spend more than the equivalent of €4 a bottle with boxed wine. Not ideal. Life’s too short to drink cheap wine :-)

It’s wine festival time for French supermarkets at the moment.
Huge stacks of wine at 'special prices' just inside the doors.
There may be bargains to be had but there is certainly plenty of choice in the bigger Carrefour and E. Leclerk supermarkets.

Thanks all once again for your replies.(y)

Pidou supermarkets in Calais and Dunkerque have good deals on these. They are near the ports.
