First year under our belt!
Without wanting to start a war, which motorhome manufacturer do most aspire to own? What's your dream mh?
Everyone's needs are different, of course; we wouldn't want anything a lot longer than the old Kontiki 600/5 we have now, but a bigger bathroom and a fixed bed wouldn't hurt. Oh, and a gurt big engine. And an auto gearbox. And cruise control... ;)
Is there a 'best' manufacturer? I do like the German brands. Are they well thought-of?

Well.. We love our Chausson... But we secretly yearn for a Rapid 1001.. And a drive long enough to park it on

For me it would have to be Concorde .
the Chrasisme, Credo or the Liner.
not fussy.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Not interested in names, As long as it is well made with the right layout(for us) & a decent payload(1000kg).

The best van suiting my budget and driveway space is sitting on my drive. Its a Burstner T821 Delfin we love it. Now if my numbers came up I would swap my merc camper van used for racing for a RS sport home

A Woosh bang
We have been researching and looking at new panel van conversions..

based on quality our preferred lay-out, have it whittled it down to:

Globecar .. Campscout
Pilote ........Foxy
Hymercar ... Yellowstone

Two German one French ..

Probably be the Globecar , already well established with plenty to view .. afaik, Pilote and Hymercar are not due into the UK until 2015

At the moment, pleased with the Pilote, but did rather fall in love with a Frankia A class at Malvern........ It had lots of toys.......;)

I'd louvre a nice mans biscuit aka Niesmann bischoff Arto.

There's one at travel world but sadly I'm 30k short, anyone for a whip round?

Is this auto-correct or some kind of motorhomer's slang I'm not yet privy to??

1st choice if money no object would be a custom MCL.
But in the real world either a Eura Mobil (best one I have ever had by a country mile)
or a Hymer 584 purely because it has the best layout for me.

Since 1996, had Elddis/Swift/Rapido/Rimor/Chausson MHs. Autocruise/Globecar PVCs/Compactline i-138
We've had (all coach builts except *):
  • 1973 Commer Autosleeper (bought 1995 I think!)
  • 1985 Ford Ambulance* (bought & converted 1997)
  • 1991 Elddis Autoquest 320 (bought 1999)
  • 2001 Swift Suntor 590 (new)
  • 2003 Rapido 709F (new)
  • 2007 Rimor Sailer 645TC (new)
  • 2010 Chausson Flash 04 (new)
  • 2012 Autocruise Accent* PVC bought at 2 month old - our current camper
The Rimor was very, very well built so top of the tree in that regard, followed by Rapido, after which Elddis, Chausson and Swift were probably on a par. However, our current Autocruise is very well built, despite being part of the 'Swift' group who many like to knock, after 2 years of ownership the cabinet work is as good as when we bought it (with the exception of the draw fronts due to the door falling off the Smev grill and putting large gouges in them on the way down to the floor, not something we can blame Autocruise for and I've now got 2 new replacements under warranty).

What do we aspire to? Nothing! We love our current camper and despite there being lots of more spec'd up ones, or even more posh looking ones, we wouldn't change it ... weighing it all up it has all we need and any 'negatives' are far outweighed by the many positives. We do like the Globecars but IMV the kitchens are just too restricted - they still only have a 2 burner grill etc but are even smaller than the one we have, and the side hinged sink would drive me mad (our Rapido had a hob with a side hinged lid and it was very restrictive), also as the kitchens in the Globecars are angled to me they feel a lot smaller than ours also our Accent has extra touches due to it being a British built camper which is nice.

So unless something comes up and really grabs our attention, we'll stick with what we've got! :)

If we had the hard brass, it would be the Niesmann & Bischoff Flair 8000i.

In the meantime, it's our trusty Hymer E690 which ticks all our boxes...............for now anyway. (y)

Cheers,

Jock.

I have lost count of how many motorhomes and caravans I have owned over the years, but by far the best build quality wise was my RMB 660 Silver Star, built in 1990. The 760 I am running at the moment is good, but like many of the older Hymers the older ones were the best, quality wise. Having said that am surrounded by a Concorde Liner plus and a Concorde Charisma, both new. The old boy with the Liner who keeps drooling over my trailer told me that if he could have bought a new RMB when he bought his Liner he would have chosen the RMB. I told him they were still made to order, but he said not by the craftsmen of RMB. I had to agree. Would I pay 500000 Euros for a motorhome, definitely not, even if JJ offered to loan me the cash.
