Have been reading this forum for the last few weeks and I have to say you seem a friendly bunch :)

I am planning on going to France Spain & Portugal for approx 5 months in January , I believe my calor gas bottle is going to be of know use over there for that period , can you advise on which way I should go on this issue i.e. gaslow etc

Thanks

We went with Alugas due to price and as importantly, the very friendly advice and help from Alugas 2000 ( http://www.autogasleisure.co.uk/ )
We have filled up in about 15 different countries over the years using the various optional filling widgets
I fitted the system myself in about an hour, but if you contact the firm they will fit it for you while you wait ( and are supplied coffee and biscuits ! :) )

If you are in Spain, Propane from Cespa is cheaper than Butane.

There is currently no deposit for new contracts.

Only problem is you may need a Spanish address, NIE or a friend with one.

I bought an 11kG Cespa Butane for £9.75 having also just bought a 13kG calor for £28.75 in the UK

But if you need a lot of Gas and moving around a lot, I favour the Alugas.

Alugas for us can't fault it and when considering like for like there wasn't enough in it for me not to get is it fitted. Too chicken to start drilling holes in a new Motorhome!

I had an underslung Gas-it tank on my Autosleeper which seemed to work well, I have recently fitted a Gas-it refillable bottle kit to our latest van. Had to drill a hole for the filler in the gas compartment door so I can fill it easily without opening the door. Quality of everything supplied is very good and it works fine. I can certainly recommend them, delivery was next day and they responded to a couple of enquiries almost immediately.

I went for Gaslow in the end after lots of deliberation about cost, weight, safety etc.
The reason I went for Gaslow was that I could easily get one locally at the same prices Hamiltons do. The weight saving with Alugas is negligible and they are more costly. I got the fill pipe, adapters and filler from The LPG Shop.
All sorted DIY for under £200 (x1 11kg cylinder)

Hello and welcome from West Midlands.

.... p.s. To get the most from the forum you will need to subscribe. It's well worth £15 and will allow you to continue posting as well as letting you into areas that non members can't access.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
I have Alugas 14kg bottles, they are the only ones that do the 14kg size. Had Stako on the last van they were getting tatty after 5 years, paint flaking off and going rusty.
