So, I live right on the south coast which isn't great for extended wild camping.

I fancy a few weeks away in September, 3 - 4 probably, but I don't want to go as far as Scotland.

Looking for peace and quiet, places I won't bother anyone or be bothered, can stay 2 or 3 days before moving on, am I asking too much?

I know France would be easier, but thought I'd look in to staying in the UK.

Scotland is definitely easiest - went o Skye recently and stayed 7 nights wild here and there

I think you'll struggle wilding for that long in the UK unless you're happy overnighting on industrial estate roads and such like, or moving every day.

Spend £20 on a Britstops book which helps to fill in the blanks for the odd night - especially travelling up and down the country

I'm just a 20 mile drive from Newhaven port. 90% of my touring is abroad where 'wilding' or using aires is commonplace and very relaxing. I've made impromptu overnight stops in lay-bys etc. a few times in the U.K. (not in Scotland) but have always felt anxious and never slept well.

How about trying to support the UK economy and pay for a campsite or CL instead? You have to fill with water and empty the grey and black waste so you can kill 2 bird with one stone or are you one of those who just dump it anywhere:censored:

A week might be a bit much as you’ll need water and to empty your cassette and waste water.

Wales is probably your best bet, with a couple of nights on site ( there are some lovely isolated ones) and the remainder wild camping. I didn’t find wilding as attractive as I’d first thought. As movan says, some dodgy people ( I only met a couple of situations) and you can be in a car park/ lay-by.
In Powys you can stay overnight in any council car park one night in eight—- Hay on Wye was the nicest, I found, with Brecon , by the canal, second.

Which is what I have done all my life and fancied a change, and don't cast aspersions when you don't know someone.

Are you one of those blokes on a campsite who always leave a stinking mess in the shower?

You could look at the dedicated Wild Camping website.

I was just looking for advice on general area, Jim suggested West Wales, that kind of thing, then I'll do some research, but to be honest my enthusiasm is wilting. Don't expect pinpoint locations or peoples secret hideaways on a general forum.

Don't worry too much about the campsite only crew, those guys are normally only happy when they are hooked up, have erected their windbreaks so no one can cut a corner over their 10 by 8 bit of ground, and have a dressing gown handy for their walk to the shower. :D

tnx for the reminder.
pre-covid-19 I meant to get the 2020 book asap.
Looks like it's £31:60 this year for the book (inc. P&P)
Is there a discounted route to the britstops' shop?

EDIT: My simple maths sum task failed me!! Price corrected

I will ask Mrs T later as she is the one who normally cleans the shower after me in the MH:giggle:

We like a freebie too however to plan 3 or 4 weeks you must either have a van with a huge fresh, grey and black tanks or be dumping it somewhere. Also with the economy going down the pan at the moment it would be good if we could all support the economy which I am sure you would agree, after all you would prefer if folks paid to stay at your site rather than hiding up the lane then dumping their waste in the verge?

Give it a rest. I'm a key worker who is looking to get away for some peace and quiet when things have died down, I don't want to be on campsites, but will use them for obvious reason which I didn't really think needed to be in the original post. I have never dumped waste anywhere other than where it should be, in fact having stayed on a site near a canal, it put me off ever owning a narrow boat as this was clearly the done thing, certainly in that area, but I don't want to tar everyone with the same brush like you seem to do.

I'm also waiting on a delivery today of .............. another cassette, and as I'm not full of s&%t like some, I will be able to go a fair few days before the inevitable stay on a campsite.

Key workers here too and also have a spare cassette.

Have a look on park4 nite , loads of out of the way places

That's the kind of thing I would have done when I knew what area I was looking at, but a more useful suggestion than some (y)(y)

Welshpool is a nice place - the car park not overly attractive but you are only sleeping there. There are toilets on the car park and a very short walk into the town.

Didn't realise I needed one. What colour shall I get?
depends, ....if the socks you wear with your sandals are brown, you could do for black or green yy :D
