Hi, we picked up our new Benimar Tessoro last week and have noticed that the fuel and the Ad Blue filler flaps open when the cab door opens - there doesn’t appear to be any sort of spring or clip to hold them closed. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there an easy fix, or is it a return to garage job? Any advice will be very welcome. Thanks

I believe this mh is on the transit chassis?
Maybe repost it in the base model section of the forums.
Sorry couldn't help hope you get it sorted

Hi Amanda,
If your Benimar is on a Ford Transit base, the passenger door secures the flaps. Both AdBlue and fuel fillers cannot be opened from the outside unless the passenger door is unlocked and opened first.

The flaps won’t open when you are driving along.

Hope this helps
James

I believe the answers so far have missed the point.
The flaps do not click closed but open every time the passenger door is opened.
That simply cannot be correct an is definitely a return to the garage job by to get it sorted out ! ( unless someone with a new type transit knows an easy fix . )

Only thing I can think of, is check in the handbook to see what is supposed to release the lid and make sure it is not stuck.

There is no release mechanism. There are two filler apertures, covered by two different flaps. One is for fuel, one for AdBlue.

I have to admit that the flaps are not strongly spring loaded. There is a lug on the top flap that is captured by the passenger door and when the passenger door is closed, it prevents opening of the fillers. There are no caps on the fillers; I think Ford call it an ‘Easyfill’ system.
That said, the flaps shouldn’t open when the passenger door’s opened. It may be that there is some crud or delivery wax attached to the top lug or door edge. That’s the only way that the flaps would open in harmony with the door.
It’s not a Benimar fault, so my advice to the O.P. is to have it looked at by a Ford Transit Centre.

I read it that they come open on their own as soon as the door is opened, and sort of presumed it was a spring doing it.
Whole system sounds really duff and cheap to me to be honest..
And a potential nightmare too !
