Ginny has the same requirement to have blood tests carried out on a fairly regular basis. We also over Wintered in Benidorm and had the same concern as you. You needn't worry though it's all quite simple and straightforward and surprisingly very inexpensive!

We had almost the same question as you which was answered by our dear late Funster Eddie Judgemental RIP. (Not on a thread but private conversation).

Eddie directed us to the IMED Hospital

http://www.imedlevante.com/en/

It's like going to a 5 star hotel. All the staff most helpful and most speak English. It's also a simple process; whereby you go through a registration process (passport required and any letters from your doctor or consultant help). You pay for whatever tests you require (Ginny's was blood ASL/ALT) and then go along to the lab where they do whatever. Part of registration process is creating an on-line account...Ginny's results were sent to us about two hours later! Alternatively you can go along next day.

The service is first rate, Ginny's test cost all of 16 euro . Yes honestly 8 euro each test! That even includes a free voucher for coffee and cake after the test!

Hope that helps!

One of my neighbours last year would get his INR and anything else at a ptivate clinic for about €30 but my other neighbour who had a car would go to the state hospital and that was free. They would email the results to the GP at home who would reply with the correct warfarin dose and when to get it checked again or any other changes.

Hi,Dave and Ginny ,thank you for that It takes a bit of stress off me now, how very helpful and what a quick response that's what this club is all about .:)

No problem at all, only too pleased to be of help...but it also made me think of dear old Eddie and wonder how many times lots of us on here will end up passing on information that we acquired from 'The Judge'. Sadly missed but always to be remembered I think.

Cant comment on the tests but 2 years ago I had cause to use the IMED hospital for an emergency accident where I severed a ligament. Dave and Ginny are right. The place IS like a 5* hotel and the service is better. They pulled a surgeon in to sew my ligament together on a sunday afternoon. Follow up consultations and dressing changes were the same, professional and no waiting. The caravan club picked up all the bills (Red Pennant. I never travel without it) with no quibble,s at all.

Don't know about tablets but we can only get 3 months at a time from our GP - even though previously been told we could get more for a long term holiday.

Legally your GP should only give NHS prescriptions for 3 months worth of medication but can give a private prescription for a further 3 months worth. However it's one of those "flexible" laws that comes down to who your GP is. I was a GP and recently checked and the law has not changed. Lots of medication is as cheap as chips in Spain so don't worry .if you know you are going then just reorder your medication a week early each time and stockpile a bit, not that I said that of course.

Our GP is one of the more 'flexible' I'm please to say, as is the consultant who is only too aware of the health benefits of being in a warmer climate for the Winter. You do need to be careful, some meds may not be available in Spain. Ginny almost ran out and her particular medication was not available anywhere.

On and off for many years.
My brother-in-law takes warfarin and is on a trial system. He does his blood test himself and puts the result onto a dedicated website. It then gives him the dose for the next week. The trial has been going for a year now and has been great for him because he is motivated to use it to his advantage.

He can buy his brand of warfarin anywhere in the world he has been (NZ, Australia, South America, USA, Japan and all over Europe). For him the brand is important as he has found that his INR goes wonky if he changes brands. It does settle again after a month or so but there is an effect.

I found the same with other tablets but we found that was because I am coeliac and some tablets contain gluten traces.

My GP printed out an extra prescription for my "by accident". Rather than scrap it he said it would save me having to phone in for a repeat next time :) Nice man :)

Sjmple really, get yourself a Blood test machine as I have, do your own test (anywhere in the world) email the test result to your doctors NHS Lab and they will tell you your tablet dose
