Worrying news re the prospective terrorist, arrested in Spain, who was planning to open fire with a “machine gun” on tourists at the beach in Benidorm.

Seems like good work by the Spanish Security Services.

I got a notification about a suspected terrorist attack in Spain from the gov. Travel advice, but didnt think it was for Benidorm!!

Looks as though the actual attack he completed with a machette in Algeceris was the catalyst to alert both the National Guard and Local civil guard to his intended actions in Benidorm with a machine gun on bathers on the Benidorm beaches.
Said to be an Islamic based faction.
Scary, but well done to the Spanish security sevices.
Looks though as if he was already known to the authorities and was being “ monitored”.

Anti-terrorist agents, in a joint operation of the Civil Guard and the National Police, have arrested a dangerous jihadist in Girona who was preparing an attack on the beaches of Benidorm against the bathers, a criminal act that he intended to record and then spread through the social networks of the Islamic State (Daesh, Isis). The arrest took place on the 25th, the same day the Algeciras attack took place.

This individual, who used the nickname “Daniel LOTFI” on social networks; username: @pipa4545″ had held conversations and carried out initiatives aimed at carrying out said attack which, thanks to the Security Forces, has been prevented.

He also expressed his desire to "punish" the Moroccan authorities , carrying out a violent action against citizens of this nationality residing in our country.
Fath was associated with another individual who calls himself “@Karim el maghrebi” , with whom he made the necessary arrangements to acquire AK-47 type weapons, Glocks 9mm pistols and explosive belts. All this through channels dedicated to the black market of arms and false documents.
Thanks to the telephone interventions, the agents detected the permanent state of alert in which he was, since he suspected that he was being watched or spied on, both physically and in his communications. For this reason, he adopted security measures in his movements and communications.
The agents verified the "unstable, reactive and violent" character, a common characteristic of jihadists who are going to take action, as was the case with the one who committed the attacks in Algeciras.

Fath continually consulted generic web pages dedicated to the jihadist phenomenon and other similar movements. Likewise, it was learned that he had lived in Nigde (Turkey), a non-tourist area precisely and that is part of the clandestine transit route to and from Syria .
On his Telegram channel, in case there was any doubt, he wrote the following: “ Oh brothers. Does anyone of you know anything about the way to buy weapons or obtain weapons through the Deep web or other safe way related to the field, since the demand is increasing for the brothers related to the subject? .
He also showed his interest in the elaboration of explosive substances and obtaining the formula for the artisan elaboration of the C4 explosive. He also intended to carry out a violent attack in Spain against an easily accessible individual target related to the Moroccan or Spanish government. Or that he was Jewish.
In this regard, he wrote: “Moroccan politicians spend their vacations in the south of Spain invited by drug traffickers […] I prefer to see them cry tears of blood and then make them drink them while they suffer in this life rather than have an escape in the other [… ] The prophet said about the message of Allah: whoever kills us will go to paradise . ”

I have only just seen your post but note that details have already been supplied by others.

We were staying at the hotel in Tunisia just a few weeks before many were killed there by a gunman on the beach. We were also in Paris when a terrorist bomb exploded in the next street.

I’m beginning to think it must be something I said!🤔

Actually, Benidorm Old Town is really nice and full of Spanish at this time of year, with plenty of tapas bars, coffee shops and restaurants with both spanish and international cuisine.
A 1.5 mile walk from the old town centre, along the sea front will take you past a variety bars and cafes with a variable clientele, as you shuffle along with the Spanish tourists, towards the New Town.
Here is where, if you so wish, you will find “The Strip” with all its glory, bright lights, loud music etc, but also some very nice, but very big, European hotels, and again often with clientele to match.
Benidorm has something to offer for everyone and you can pick and chose whatever to do that floats yer boat.
However, from late spring right through to November, the descending on mass of tourists from all over, particularly Brits, can make it very busy wherever you are.
I was like you, and had no inclination to go there, having seen some horrendous videos and pictures of really poor behaviour, but in fact at this time of year, ie “ out of season “ In my last 6 visits I have seen nothing like what often gets reported.
Get to stay in the old town, get out and about amongst the locals, get a bus or train/tram ride to Albir, Altea or even Alicanti and enjoy.
Think you might be pleasantly surprised!

Oh, and the general infrastructure of how things work over there, street cleaning, police, water and food quality, supermarkets and general services put GB plc to shame.
And the roads don’t have pot-holes!!!

I agree with all you say. Something for everybody . Have been coming over for six years now. Took the plunge last year a bought a caravilla on site. We’re so near Bristol airport it works well . Stay for a month go home come back . Still have our motorhome never give that up. Been motorhoming for 38 years but sometimes it’s nice not all the driving
 
A bit cooler here today, overcast and spitting with rain. El Raco is quite nice, but then again Arena Blanca is, La Torretta was okay apart from the occasional flood, Villamar and Villasol are not useable for us with dogs, but I have stayed on Villamar a few times before we had dogs and it was okay.
